MOTU Stratos

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
MOTU Stratos
Presenting Stratos from our He-Man Masters of the Universe - MOTU - collection.

To the uninitiated, Stratos is one of the key allies of He-Man. We say "key" because he's the only one of the "Masters of the Universe" who can fly on his own power.

Stratos is the leader of the people of Avion - a race of humanoid creatures with bird-like features and abilities - such as the power of flight, aerial acrobatics and enhanced vision.

Stratos enhances his power of flight with a jetpack and adds to his ability to kill anything from the sky with a pair of brass knuckles that fire lasers.

Stratos plays the role of a spy for He-Man's team aside from being an aerial combatant.

Containment TV Series Review

Containment TV series
Presenting a short review on Containment, a brand new TV series from the CW.

Everybody's talking about the return of Game of Thrones (A real cock-blocking issue. Really hurt us.), and the rest of our staple TV fare have reached the end of their respective seasons so we decided to go search for something new and Containment caught our eye.

Containment aired April 19 and is an American adaptation of a Belgian TV series called Cordon. In a nutshell, the series follows individuals caught in an outbreak of a weaponized version of avian flu which forces authorities to cordon off a large portion of Atlanta in an attempt to prevent the virus from spreading.

Google it, and you get this as a description: "When a mysterious epidemic breaks out in Atlanta, an urban quarantine is enforced, leaving those inside to fight for their lives as local and federal officials search for a cure. Police officer Lex Carnahan works to keep the peace, but the situation becomes personal when he learns his girlfriend Jana and his best friend Jake are both stuck in the cordoned area. Also trapped with the infected are 17-year-old Teresa, who is very pregnant and separated from her boyfriend, elementary teacher Katie Frank, who is on lockdown with her entire class, and CDC researcher Dr. Victor Cannerts. Public trust deteriorates as a journalist, Leo, begins chasing down a conspiracy that unravels the official story."

HALO 5 Guardians Spartan Buck

HALO 5 Guardians
HALO 5 Guardians Spartan Buck
Presenting Spartan IV Edward "Eddie" Buck former ODST and member of Team Osiris from the HALO 5 Guardians video-game and McFarlane Toys.

Click here to read about the other HALO 5 Guardians action figures in our collection

This is the character based upon the looks and personality of Nathan Fillon, the lead of the much loved and missed Firefly TV series and current lead of the detective rom/com Castle - though I hear his partner, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) has left the series.

Nathan also provides the voice for Spartan Buck and has been providing his voice since Buck appeared as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) in Halo 3 ODST.

The writers behind HALO 5 Guardians also have Spartan Buck screaming "Gorram!" and "Bam, said the lady!" which are quotes from Firefly and Castle respectively.

Marvel Legends Agent 13 Sharon Carter

Marvel Legends
Marvel Legends Agent 13 Sharon Carter
Presenting Agent 13 Sharon Carter from the Marvel Legends Onslaught BAF series.

Captain America: Civil War breaks into tho the big screen next week and Emily VanCamp will be reprising her role as SHIELD Agent 13, Sharon Carter - although this time she isn't an Agent of SHIELD, she's a CIA agent.... so she probably won't go by the code-name Agent 13.

In the comic books - upon which this Marvel Legends figure is based upon, Sharon Carter is the niece (retconned) of Margaret "Peggy" Carter, the original paramour of Steve Rogers, Captain America. It hasn't been established in the movie version if she is related to Haley Atwell's character, but genetically due to the lack of "heavenly blessings" we would say no.

Batman versus Superman - BVS - Battle Armor Batman

Batman versus Superman
BVS Battle Armor Batman
Presenting the BvS Battle Armor Batman from Mattel's Batman versus Superman toyline.

One of the harshest criticisms received by the Batman versus Superman movie is that you did not have to watch the movie, you could just watch the trailers. We agree. There are things that DC/WB's marketing team just shouldn't have just revealed on the onset. They simply gave away too much.

And one of the things they should not have revealed in our opinion was the Dark Knight Returns inspired Battle Armor of Batman.

They should have stopped at eyes glowing in the dark and left the rest of the reveal for us to wait for anxiously til the movie comes out.

Part of the fun of waiting for a movie to come out - especially a comic book movie - is the waiting.

GI Joe Low Crawl Vehicle - LCV - Recon Sled

GI Joe Low Crawl Vehicle - LCV - Recon Sled
Presenting a vintage 1986 GI Joe Low Crawl Vehicle - LVC - Recon sled (Driven by a 2009 Tunnel Rat).

Wow. This GI Joe reconnaissance sled is 30 years old - a genuine tribute to the durability of plastic.

These were supposedly built as vehicles that would literally crawl through high-grass or jungle terrain in order to spy on Cobra. Our problem with that is that if you read the blueprints for the LCV Recon sled, you won't find anything that would silence the engine.

The GI Joe Team used the LCVs in the Rise of Serpentor cartoon series as a light-assault scout, both in the battle of Napoleon's tomb in France and again in Egypt in the battle of Xanoth Amon Toth's tomb.

In both battles they were treated like armored motorcycles.

Transformers Takara TAV-33 Supreme Class Optimus Prime

Transformers Takara TAV-33 Supreme Class Optimus Prime
Presenting a Takara TAV-33 Supreme Class Optimus Prime from the Transformers Robots in Disguise or Adventure toyline.

Not sure why the Japanese felt the need to localize the name. If we understand it correctly, they also added content to the American cartoon.

Anyway since we don't read  Japanese, this is the Supreme class Optimus Prime. In the Transformers Robots in Disguise or Adventure animated series, Optimus Prime has retreated to the dimension of the Realm of the Primes to train under a mini-bot named Micronus to face an unnamed coming darkness.

The "Darkness" arrives in the form of Megatronus, but Optimus Prime is not ready yet, so he begs the Primes for a portion of their power.

And here he is.

Daredevil Season 2 Review

Daredevil Season 2 Review
This is our sister blog's review on the 2nd Season of Netflix's Daredevil

"Here're our thoughts on the 2nd Season of Daredevil on Netflix. The whole world went Bat-crazy on Batman versus Superman which means this review is a bit late in favor of the BvS Review. We'd like to take the time to point out that this review has nothing to do with Ben Affleck having played Daredevil. This is merely our thoughts on the Devil of Hell's kitchen played by Charlie Cox (There be Dragons - kinda ironic).

Netflix released the second series of Daredevil on March 18 with the following cast:
  • Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/ Daredevil
  • Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) as Karen Page
  • Elden Henson (The Hunger Games) as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson
  • Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Fury) as Frank Castle/Punisher
  • Élodie Yung (GI Joe Retaliation) as Elektra Natchios
  • Rosario Dawson (Rent, Alexander) as Claire Temple/Night Nurse (?)
  • Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket) as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin
  • Scott Glenn (Silence of the Lambs, Sucker Punch) as Stick
  • Peter Shinkoda (Falling Skies) as Nobu Yoshioka
Episodes written by: Douglas Petrie, Marco Ramirez, Mark Verheiden, John C. Kelley, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Sneha Koorse, Luke Kalteux, Whit Anderson, & Mark Verheiden,"

GI Joe 50th Anniversary Marine Devastation Gung-Ho

GI Joe 50th Anniversary
GI Joe 50th Anniversary Marine Devastation Gung-Ho
Presenting Gung-Ho from the GI Joe 50th Anniversary Marine Devastation toyline.

There's a rumor going around the interweb that suggests that Hasbro has stopped producing GI Joe action figures because it militarizes the youth, simplifies the war against terror and promotes Nationalism bordering on racism.

GI Joe makes collectors Rednecks.

We should point out that Gung-Ho is a Cajun, not a Redneck. We understand some Cajuns take offense to the use of the generic term for people South of the Mason-Dixon line.

We think that such an idea is too simplistic and is a matter of marketing and public relations.

But then again, Trump is inching his way towards becoming "the most powerful man in the universe" so what do we know?
