Marvel Universe: Punisher

Presenting the Punisher from the Marvel Universe Toy Line Series 1.

Ah... Apparently this is supposed to be some kind of rare Marvel Universe figure that - surprise - sells for US$ 29.99 on Amazon (Roughly PhP 1,260 plus shipping).

I picked it up from the Department Store of Robinson's Galleria for PhP 499.75 (Roughly US$ 11.89.

Having opened it, I really have to say, I'm not so sure what all the fuss is about. People and forums keep saying that it has something to do with the "white gloves", but I honestly don't remember seeing a Punisher with "Black gloves"

I'm wondering if it's because I'm not really a fan of the Punisher - though I do have to admit that I liked the version done by Ray Stevenson followed by the Punisher played by Thomas Jane.

So, the "White Gloves" variant Marvel Universe Punisher's blister card reads "Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher is the most dangerous man the world has ever seen. He operates in a shadowy realm far away from the spotlight occupied by regular heroes. Walking the dangerous line between hero and criminal. He fights the fight that is too dark and dirty for most. He's not a man out to right wrongs or protect the innocent. Instead he fights a war to destroy crime, and punish the guilty."

The Punisher's SHIELD file written by Agent Heather Sante (The operative associated with the Captain Mar-Vell who turned out to be a Skrull), states to all SHIELD Field Operatives that:
"It is imperative that extreme caution is taken while tracking Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher). Because of means we are not yet aware of, Punisher has constantly eluded our ground-surveillance teams, and has neutralized several Field Operatives in the process, all while carrying out his vigilante criminal crusades. While his vigilantism maybe considered honorable to some, it is with upmost importance that these criminals are brought to Justice civilly and according to law. Also note, Punisher has a seemingly endless suply of weaponry. We are currently attempting to locate the point of supply. Find the weapons, find the Punisher."

What's to like about the Marvel Universe Series Punisher?

Ah.... he has white gloves and he's supposedly a variant?

Alright, that's not being fair to Marvel. We have to take into consideration that this particular figure was part of series 1 of the Marvel Universe line. So naturally the company was still learning how to run in term of developing their products. Hence the rather "Fat torso", belt, hands and huge head - dig the size of that jaw!!!!

And articulation actually is not bad - definitely better than the more modern Gambit (Albeit he's an offshoot of the Wolverine toy line). He's no Daredevil, but he's still more than acceptable.

He also comes with a pistol, what looks like an 9mm HK MP5K with a non-folding stock, extended barrel (suppressor?) and a forearm grip, and a Star Wars rejected Clone Wars rifle:

What's NOT to like about the Marvel Universe Series Punisher?

I know I wanted to give the Marvel Universe some leeway since this is a Series 1 Action figure, but... wow that's a big jaw! Then take note of his eyebrows. It looks like someone burned them off and he had to stitch them shut and tried to hide the scars with a pentel pen.

He also has a pair of awkward hands that prevent him from properly holding his submachine gun. I wasn't even sure that he could properly hold his pistol, but surprisingly he can:

And what's with the Star Wars clone wars rifle? How about a shot-gun or a sniper-rifle instead:

But hey, if he is a rare variant, I suppose he's okay. But I really wouldn't pay US$ 30 for the Marvel Universe Punisher. Happily I didn't.
