Jango Fett

Presenting Jango Fett from the Star Wars 2013 Line

I recently came to realize that I actually did not have a lot of Jango Fetts in the Dungeon. I had a lot of Boba Fetts and I was particularly smitten by the Vintage Edition Boba Fett, but not a lot of Jangos.

Probably because - like Boba Fett again - the market is flooded with crappy figures. So when I saw the 2013 Edition Boba Fett I just had to get it.

To the uninitiated, Jango Fett is the  Mandalorian Bounty Hunter who would be come the Genetic "Father" of all the Clone Troopers  (Including Boba Fett who he raised as a real son) that were used in the Republic's Grand Army. He saw not just to their genetic makeup, but to their training and even their outfitting - which explains the similarity between Jango Fett's armor and the armor of the Clone Troopers.

He would meet his fate at the end of  Jedi Master Mace Windu's blade in the Battle of Geonosis where, ironically, his Clone Prodigy would come to the rescue of the overwhelmed Jedi.

Okay. Here's the bad news. A  few days ago, my 3-year old laptop crashed and I lost the original photos of Jango Fett. As such, I lost the in-package shots of Jango Fett, but I'm pretty sure the blister pack said nothing important.

But you should know that there is a Vintage Edition Jango Fett in the market. This Vintage Edition Jango Fett features him with his blue poncho.  The 2013 Variant variant ditches the poncho in favor of a rocket-launching back-pack. Come to think of it, I think I'll be ditching this Jango's back-pack in favor of one of my older Jango Fetts (the one in the Boba Fett review) and take his poncho. Should make for a much nicer figure.

What's to like about the Star Wars 2013 Edition Jango Fett?

It doesn't disappoint with the heightened articulation and intense detail.

Unlike his son who doesn't really care about the way he looks - despite how much money he probably makes, Jango Fett's armor is pretty much still in pristine condition so you can pretty much see everything and enjoy the detailing that went into him - particularly in his gauntlets.

And Jango Fett's helmet comes off with little to practically no facial distortion.

The Star Wars 2013 Edition Jango Fett comes with everything you see here: Mandalorian Shocktrooper armor that sacrificed the lightsaber resistant Beskar plating for the less resilient Durasteel; a pair of Westar-34 Blaster pistols - interestingly enough, Westar-34s were also favored by Boba Fett and the Rogue Jedi Quinlan Vos; holsters for his pistols, and; a JT-12 compact jetpack featuring a warhead missile launcher (Not to be confused with the traditional Mitrinomon z-6 that he also uses but does not have a missile launcher).

If we are to believe his wiki, Jango Fett also had: A BlasTech Dur-24 wrist laser; Czerka ZX miniature flame projector; an integrated Velocity-7 dart shooter with Kamino saberdarts - and that's just his right gauntlet. His left gauntlet  had a Kelvarex Consolidated Arms MM9 mini concussion rocket, which utilized computer target tracking. He also used Type-12A anti-personnel rockets, Type-12B gas capsules, and 1126 rockets;  a field security overloader, sonic beam weapon, wristband blades, wrist mounted grappling hook, boot spikes, and electromagnetic devices in his gloves, enabling him to attract his guns from a short distance

That's a lot of gear.

As you can see the 2013 Jango Fett's articulation is quite grand. It is almost at par with that of the Vintage Boba Fett. He can't completely kneel though:

What's NOT to like about the Star Wars 2013 Edition Jango Fett?

Without a doubt that stinking spring loaded missile on his back which looks like someone stabbed him with a cotton bud.

This is why I earlier discussed the possibility of exchanging this jetpack with a non-rocket-able jetpack and perhaps even giving him a poncho.

Another problem is Jango Fett's holsters. They actually do two things: Hamper his leg movement, and; b) Make him look much shorter. The hampered movement also leads to a lot of really comical poses with Jango gaily skipping around shooting people:

And the last problem with 2013 Jango Fett is the position of his hands. He doesn't possess the ability to... uncock his hands from their firing position, which is great for drawing and shooting, but nothing else.

This particular 2013 Jango Fett was purchased at retail from Toy Kingdom in Megamall here in the Philippines for PhP 699.75 (Roughly US$ 17). He is available on Amazon.com for US$ 24.95 (Roughly PhP 1,023 plus shipping). With some modifications, he's an incredible figure to have.
