Marvel Now Captain America

Presenting the Marvel Now Captain America from the Marvel Legends Infinite Series.

No he does not come with a rifle, but since Captain America is no longer traumatized by using weapons - really seemed weird anyway that a guy who made it through basic training would be adverse to using firearms - it seemed right to give him one. Even a bit of a plus since it's a Hydra Automatic rifle.

Plus this is the modern day Captain America (Hence the Marvel Now! tag). I am really digging this look over his old scale-mail uniform. That suit is a classic, but it just wasn't practical or realistic. Remember when Chris Evans came out wearing it in the movie? He looked like clown! Who would follow that? So this more modern adaptation using modern day Kevlar plates, a skull-cap and other modern military accouterments really appears to me.

The Marvel Legends Infinite Series Marvel Now Captain America's blister card simply reads: "No Matter how often Arnim Zola's twisted creations beat him down, Steve Rogers will always stand up!" That phrase can soooo be taken the wrong way :)

He comes with everything you see here: One shield, and one BAF Mandroid Armor head - which is really cool by the way. I honestly am thinking of completing it.

What's to like about the Marvel Now Captain America?

Well I guess by now you know I like how he looks. I really am fond of the detailing that went into him, particularly on his chest piece where you can make-out the layered kevlar plates and other protective padding that make up his new uniform.

I'm also kinda glad that the Marvel Now! Captain America has lost his head wings. Those were like pleading invitations for bad-guys to grab so that one could deliver a swift knee to his head.

The tactical belt is also a nice touch, and I love his belt buckle.

Here's a look at the Marvel Now! Captain America's upper torso. Look at how stern he looks as well. Great paint job, great sculpting!

I have mixed feelings about the removal of the garter straps in the Marvel Now! Captain America's shield. On one hand, the straps were useless in holding the shield in place, but on the other-hand, the peg to the back just seems a bit... off without the garter straps.

Articulation is excellent. The Marvel Now! Captain America can be made to kneel - with some difficulty.

Add the aforementioned rifle and voila!

The Marvel Now! Captain America comes with bendable wrists and the ability to hyperextend his arms over his shoulders - which I actually found weird till I realized that Captain America liked to charge head first using his shield as a battering ram:

What's NOT to like about the Marvel Now Captain America?

Okay. I love this figure, but when I got him, I was hella pissed because Marvel Now! Captain America could not twist at the waist. I was like WTF!!!! A Marvel Legends figure with this much articulation that cannot twist at the waist? It was discouraging and reeked of budget cuts.

A friend then told me that he can and should be able to twist at the waist. So I took him again and twisted him till I heard a crack. Lo and behold he started twisting. Underneath the portion where he started twisting, was the white residue of an adhesive. Either my particular piece is defective and adhesive leaked out of a seal somewhere, or he was never really meant to twist.

But now he does.

Also, I think the shield is a tad small for him. Consider the size of the Marvel Universe Captain America's shields where we already see a small inconsistency with the size of the shield (3.75 cm vs 4 cm in diameter) The Marvel Now! Captain America is probably closer to the 3.75 cm shield in ratio. It's also smaller than the faux energy shield I have for Commander Rogers:

Other than that, the Marvel Now! Captain America is a great figure and a wonderful addition to any Marvel Legends collection, especially if you are building a modern Avengers set. This particular Marvel Legends Infinity Series Marvel Now! Captain America with Mandroid BAF was purchased at retail from the Dept Store of Robinson's Galleria for PhP 1,149.75 (Roughly US$ 25.55). He's available on Amazon for a much more reasonable US$ 19.99 (Roughly PhP 899.55 plus shipping).

Another qualm by the way is that he's a bit short to be Captain America or Wolverine is too tall to be Wolverine. Still he kicks Cyclops's butt.

And really needs a gun:
