Star Wars Episode VII Walmart Exclusive Kylo Ren

Star Wars Episode VII Walmart Exclusive
I will finish what you started
Presenting Kylo Ren from the Walmart Exclusive Black Series Star Wars Episode VII toyline.

To the uninitiated, this is the Kylo Ren 3.75" Black Series that comes with far more articulation than the regular Hasbro 5POA toys. This is not the 6" Black Series figure that we reviewed before Episode VII came out.

Now that we've seen Episode VII and we're almost half-way to Episode VIII, we know that the internet is still pretty divided about the efficacy of that cross-guard.

We know that the cross-guard doesn't work to protect Kylo. It's actually an offensive weapon for when lightsaber duelists get really up-close.

Personally we believe that the cross-guard is still more of a liability than a benefit. So much so that if you ever check out Ray Park wielding the cross-guard lightsaber, that - despite the fact that he can deftly play with it - he keeps it a healthy distance away from his body.

Walmart Exclusive Kylo Ren
Like his Black Series version, the Walmart Exclusive Kylo Ren is comprised of a mix of hard plastics and cloth. He comes armed with a lit- cross-guard lightsaber - that exquisitely shows off its instability - and an unlit cross-guard lightsaber.

This particular Kylo Ren was purchased a few months ago loose so we don't have his box. Walmart has this to say about Kylo: "The Black Series brings exquisite features and articulated movement, which for every devotee of Star Wars means quality and realism. Take control of Kylo Ren and recreate unforgettable clashes with the Dark Side. A dark warrior strong with the Force, Kylo Ren commands First Order missions with a temper as fiery as his unconventional Lightsaber. Picture new adventures with an included accessory. Collect and battle with these and other figures and vehicles from Star Wars."

We're pretty hyped that Walmart recognizes that Kylo is not a Sith, he's just strong in the Force.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE STAR WARS EPISODE VII WALMART EXCLUSIVE KYLO REN?

FIRST: Yes! He can move! No silly five points of articulation holding us back!

As you've already seen from the pics above, unlike the regular Hasbro Kylo Ren, this particular Kylo can bend his elbows, dual-wield his lightsaber, has working wrists, can raise his arms side-ways, can twist at the waist, can open his legs, bend at the knee and can tilt his ankles.

Something every respectable action figure should be able to do.

He's a darling match to our Walmart Exclusive Episode VII Rey.

SECONDThe detailing! It's exquisite! We love the lightsabers - lit and unlit and how they're both really nicely fashioned; we love the flaring blade - and how the light sometimes catches it just right so that even the interior looks like it's unstable; and we love the beat up mask that he comes with.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE STAR WARS EPISODE VII WALMART EXCLUSIVE KYLO REN?

FIRST: Yes! He can move! But that movement is limited. The Walmart Exclusive Kylo Ren's articulation is hampered by his hard cloak that prevents his head from turning (You can force it a bit, and hampers his right arm as well. The 6" Black Series Kylo Ren did not have any such limitation because his cloak was made of cloth, clearly this is not the case here.

It's also why he can't hold his lightsaber over his head - something his 6" version could do.

SECOND: Note how the cloth skirt really looks bad on Kylo. It really was a pain to try to make it look good. Other Star Wars figures have used softer material than what was used in Kylo's skirt.

THIRD:  He can't kneel. Like Rey he doesn't come with double jointed knees.

Now if only we can find a reasonably priced 5POA unmasked Kylo Ren, We'd be in business.

Because he is a Walmart Exclusive, the Star Wars Episode VII Black Series Kylo Ren is not available on Amazon at this time. You may purchase him on the black market or on Walmart's website where he will set you back US$ 12.83 (Roughly PhP 615.84 plus shipping).
