Marvel Legends Captain Britain

Marvel Legends
Together, we will guard the gates of reality
Presenting Captain Britain from the Marvel Legends Captain America Abomination BAF series.

To the uninitiated, Captain Britain is Brian Braddock, the fraternal twin of the mutant Betsy Braddock, Psylocke - who he really isn't very fond of since he found out that she was a member of X-Force and hunted down and killed bad-guys.

Following the death of his parents, Brian was working in Darkmoor nuclear facility when it was attacked by the villain known as the Reaver. Attempting to escape to get help, Brian is mortally wounded. He is then confronted by Merlyn and the Guardian of the Omniverse, Roma and the dying Brain is asked to choose between the Sword of Might or the Amulet of Right.

Brian chooses the Amulet and becomes Captain Britain - the "Protector of the entire bloody Omniverse", imbued with Superhuman strength, speed, endurance, agility, durability, reflexes, and senses as well as the the abilities to fly, project destructive energy beams and generate force fields. We should note that Kelsey Leigh chose the Sword of Might and still also became Captain Britain (Lionheart, The one who would become an Avenger, not a Secret Avenger).

As of this writing, Captain Britain is supposedly the last surviving member of the Captain Britain Corp following the universal incursions that unified the Marvel Universe.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP

Prior to the decimation of the Captain Britain Corp, Brian's powers became tied to his confidence. The more he believed in himself, the stronger he was. This actually allowed him to stand toe-to-toe with the Pheonix Force for a while,

His blister pack reads a very vague "Heroes from around the globe team up to vanquish evil wherever they find it" It's a rough reference to the fact that Brian Braddock is from Great Britain, but his equivalent (Wonder Man) is American soo..... not very global.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE MARVEL LEGENDS ENERGIZED EMISSARIES CAPTAIN BRITAIN?

FIRST: Captain Britain reuses the body of the Conquering Heroes Sentry/Hyperion so it's quite robust and solid. Truly worthy of the slugging indomitable force that Captain Britain is.

The only things that are unique to this figure we believe would be the head sculpt, forearms and lower legs and we love this modern incarnation of the avatar of the British people. We're especially particular to the boxing-gloves treatment given to his forearms.

We should note that the first Marvel Legends Captain Britain figure that was released was from the Giant-Man series that also included the Sentry. If memory serves us correctly, the Sentry and Captain Britain also shared the same torso back then.

But we like the skull-cap of Captain Britain better.

Note also that this Captain Britain now bears the Lionheart crest on both shoulders.

Now we know the torso was re-used but Marvel did not bother to cover up the hole that mounted the Sentry's cape on Captain Britain's back. As you can see, he has two holes back there instead of one. It looks a little weird but it does raise possibilities for this figure in terms of customization.

Here's a look at Captain Britain's quite solid form:

SECOND: Articulation is excellent for something so big. He does not have the shoulder articulation of Wolverine from the X-Men series, which is a shame as he loses some articulation due to how big his chest is, and; the design of his boots prevents some articulation as well.

Still he comes across as a pretty decent brawler.

Captain Britain looks better of course with a stand:

He can kneel, but as mentioned he can't cant his ankles forward because of the design of his boots:

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE MARVEL LEGENDS ENERGIZED EMISSARIES CAPTAIN BRITAIN?

FIRST: We're just a bit bothered by the loss of articulation in the boots and we really wish that he could "reach" with his forearms like Wolverine from the X-Men series can.

Other than that? Nothing much is wrong and it's a great figure if you're a fan of Captain Britain - or Excaliber. We love how the figure is also generic enough so that it can be used for customization.

The Marvel Legends Abomination BAF Energized Emissaries series Captain Britain is available on Amazon for  US$ 17.99 (Roughly PhP 864 plus shipping). This particular Jean Grey was borrowed from a friend here in Fairview and set him back around PhP 1,200 (Roughly US$ 25).
