Marvel Legends Lorna Dane - Polaris - Action Figure

Marvel Legends Lorna Dane - Polaris - Action Figure
The last true daughter of Magneto
The Marvel Legends Lorna Dane - Polaris - Action Figure is a marvelous representation of one of the X-Men's traditional 2nd tier characters.

And yes, we mean 2nd tier. The former love team (Wasp really did a number on the now disfigured Alex Summers) of Havok and Polaris has always been a poor copy of the love team of Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Personally, save for stint in X-Factor (The formerly Government run one, not the one formerly run by Serval Industries), we preferred her more as one of the X-Men's staunchest villains back when she was possessed by the Marauder Malice in the 80's.

Let's see how she stands on her own - especially since she's about to go toe-to-toe against her ex Havok in the X-Men Blue comic book.

Now before we delve into the action figure, can we just say that - again unlike Jean Grey - Polaris has gone through some pretty... "scandalous" costumes. Almost as if Marvel wanted her to become a sex-pot, but it never worked (Unlike in the case of Rogue).  We're actually glad that Marvel's action figure incarnation of Polaris does not come with a deep, revealing cleavage.

Her negativity attracted the Shadow King who was then defeated by Psylocke. Polaris' secondary mutation faded and her magnetic powers returned.

The Marvel Legends Lorna Dane - Polaris - Action Figure's blister card reads "Magnetic, electrical and gravitic fields are no match for Polaris, a super being with the ability to control and manipulate magnetism." We're not sure how gravity got involved here, but we suppose it's because Polaris can fly just like her father, Magneto - though if we remember our Marvel RPG statistics correctly, Polaris has only 40% of her father's strength - and the American Government chose her for X-Factor to be a deterrent to Magneto.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE MARVEL LEGENDS LORNA DANE - POLARIS - ACTION FIGURE?

FIRST: Polaris is a pretty straight forward and simple action figure. She's made from a Jean Grey torso. Her legs may be from Hellcat. Her arms - especially her forearm gauntlets are new - we're quite fond of the sculpt of her biceps/triceps. And of course there's the head sculpt with is brand new - we're really glad they just didn't reuse the head of the Scarlet Witch or the Enchantress.

Her power manifestations are ironically the same as Havok's.

And then there's the cape which - unlike say the cape of the Scarlet Witch - is made of soft, pliable plastic and can be removed. The cape provides for some really dramatic poses.

Here's a closer look at Lorna Dane's facial sculpt. Note the metallic green shade of lipstick. She's not as deadpan as previous Marvel Legends and seems to be... squinting.

SECOND: And boy can she pose.

But of course Polaris looks much better with her stand:

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE MARVEL LEGENDS LORNA DANE - POLARIS - ACTION FIGURE?

FIRST: Nothing really. We love her. She's seriously one of the nicest action figures to enter our collection.

Then only thing we have to object to would be her energy manifestations. They really shouldn't have made use of Havok's energy manifestations. We understand that it's cheaper to do so, but in the comic books no way do these two have such similar powers emissions.

Add to that the fact that they don't really attach nicely to her forearms. They're better off attached to her forearm which are thicker because of her gauntlets.

Amazon offers this fine daughter of Magneto for US$ 15.05 (Roughly PhP 782 plus shipping). A definite must have especially if you're into X-Men.
