Marvel Legends Magik Review

We'd like to thank Marvel for making one of the rarest Marvel Legends figures - Magik - easier to attain. 

Though we're pretty sure that there are those out there who are seething that Magik's price range has dropped. Illayana Rasputin here used to be a 2015 SDCC exclusive that you could only get if you were able to purchase Marvel's Book of the Vishanti collection that includes: the Astral Plane version of Doctor Strange; Brother Voodoo, Hela and the great  Dormammu. Because it was an SDCC exclusive, we've seen Magik being sold alone - sans the Book of the Vishanti - for as high as US$275 (Roughly PhP 15,000). So when this was released? We had to have her - especially since Colossus and Shadowcat came out so beautifully.

What they seem to fail to have remembered was that she should also be manifesting a set of armor that gets stronger with each use of her  Soulsword.

The Marvel Legends Magik action figure comes with:

• A flaming skull alternative head
• A flaming Lockheed
• A Soulsword
• A katana with eldritch energy emissions
• One alternate right hand for spell-casting
• Eldritch energy emissions for her hands and for her arm or Soulsword.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE MARVEL LEGENDS ILLAYANA RASPUTIN MAGIK ACTION FIGURE?


FIRST: Well as far as teenage demon inspired dominatrixes go (She covers a lot of fetishes doesn't she?) Magik is quite beautiful. She uses a unique facial sculpt based upon - most likely - the art of Stuart Immonen whose art also appears on the face of Shadowcat.

Magik's face is very young, very European and, depending upon the light, bounces between haughtiness, contempt and youthfulness.

Definitely one of our favorite facial sculpts.

Stop staring at the teenage cleavage.

SECOND: Illyana Rasputin's articulation is - as expected. She even has the ability to curl her left hand. The Eldritch energy emissions allow for a plethora of possibilities that make posing Magik a joy.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE MARVEL LEGENDS ILLAYANA RASPUTIN MAGIK ACTION FIGURE?

FIRST: Well WHAT THE HELL is that!!!!??? As of this writing we cannot find an incidence where Magik's head turned into a flaming red skull - a demon's face yes, but skull no. We also cannot find any incidence where she manifested a red version of Shadowcat's Lockheed.

Hopefully the flaming red-skull head is part of someone's BAF or has something to do with Ghost Rider. The nice part about it is that you can actually open his mouth which is pretty cool.

SECOND: The problem with the Stuart Immonen version of Illayana Rasputin is that he never portrayed her - to our knowledge - manifesting additional armor or becoming more demonic with the use of her powers. It would really be a blast if we could add more armor to her uniform - but of course that would make her less dominatrix looking, so mixed feelings there - or have the ability to swap out her legs for a pair of back-canted demon legs.

The X-Men's resident dominatrix is available in Amazon for US$32.64 (Roughly PhP 1,800 plus shipping) - a far cry from her book of Vashanti version.

A definite must for any X-Man collector.
