Transformers Bumblebee Studio Series Optimus Prime

Transformers Bumblebee Studio Series Optimus Prime
Megatron must be stopped! No matter the cost!
The only way the Transformers Bumblebee Studio Series Optimus Prime could be better is if he were made of die-cast metal.... and was bigger. Paging 3rd party groups!

We enjoyed the Bumblebee movie - although how it fits into the Bayverse is beyond us. Personally it would have been way better if they just admitted that this was a re-boot.

As you can probably tell, we loved Optimus Prime's cameo in the film, and we particularly loved how Travis Knight created an Optimus Prime that was closer, truer to his appearance in the G1 cartoons. Something Bay utterly failed to do - not that we didn't like the updated Optimus Prime look, but... if this was possible why wasn't it done in the first place?

MORE AFTER THE JUMP

The Transformers Bumblebee Studio Series Optimus Prime blister card doesn't really say much about him other than he's "Big Screen Inspired" and then it goes on to say something about the bridge he's standing on (Which we really don't care about).

But we have to say that it was really nice of Takara to provide a nice display back-drop or stage for the figure when you take it out of the box (If you're in to such a thing).

“I am Optimus Prime,
and I send this message so that our pasts will always be remembered.
For in those memories, we live on.”
WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE TF BUMBLEBEE STUDIO SERIES OPTIMUS PRIME?

FIRST:  The clunkiness. It's the classic Optimus Prime look upgraded to make him look less like a truck and more like the techno-organic machine that he is - complete with all the imperfections, bumps and irregularities that add to his perfection. We love how you can tell what's armor and what's... softer (Like his belly or joints).

SECOND: We also love how some of his parts - like his shoulder and chest piece, aren't really locked into place, and these move around as you pose him. It's like he has shifting plates of armor all over. Again, this imperfection simply added to the perfection of this figure.

And boy can he pose:

Yes, he can kneel:

THIRD: No empty or uncovered slots this time. Nothing that we have to wait for a third party company to cover up - though certain parts of him (Particularly his legs) are quite hollow.

FOURTH: We really appreciate the extra minute detailing that went into this figure. All that tiny intricate little details make this Optimus Prime more than worth it. Check out just his face here:

Can you imagine how much work went into making the mold for just that head. And look! Rivets!

The Matrix! Where's my Matrix!
WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE TF BUMBLEBEE STUDIO SERIES OPTIMUS PRIME?

FIRST:  There's no Matrix of Leadership in there. There's definitely space for a 3rd party company to put one, however given the complexity of his transformation, it'll either be a very small and thin one or you will have to redesign his enture upper torso - still look at how lovely the detailing of his lower torso is!

SECOND: His back is huge! You see it every now and then from the front, and it's definitely NOT sexy. However it does carry hardpoints to mount weapons upon, so with the right weapons systems - assuming he can carry the weight - it should look pretty cool. Maybe there will be a 3rd party upgrade to give him wings in the future.

Again, bask in that detailing:

THIRD: We're no real fans of his truck mode. The transformation procedure is incredibly complicated and quite inspired - what with his gas cans folding into his legs - but the end result is kinda.... flat.

This is without a doubt one of THE BEST Optimus Primes in our collection and I'm definitely looking forward to any future adaptations that may come for this in the future:
