Star Wars Vintage: Quinlan Vos

Presenting Jedi Master Quinlan Vos from the Star Wars Vintage Collection.

Jedi Master Quinlan Vos is one of the more interesting Jedi to come out of the fallen Republic. He's actually one of the few "Gray" Jedi - or Jedi that don't quite adhere strictly to the rulings of the Jedi Council and who prefer to follow their own path or to those Jedi that dance between the light and dark.   The so-called "Gray" Jedi include Jedi Masters Qui-Gon Jinn, Jolee Bindo, Jacen Solo and the Imperial Knights.

They're modern day Ronin - Master-less Samurai.

Jedi Master Quinlan Vos is most renown for having mastered Form VII of lightsaber combat   - also known as Vaapad - a style that required the use of both Dark and Light-side Force techniques; training Jedi Master Aayla Secura, and; for falling to the Darkside - but came back.

He's also one of the few - if not the only - Clone War era Jedi to use a blaster.

Can you spot him in Episode 1?
Jedi Master Quinlan Vos is a Kiffar - a race of humanoids who use facial tattoos in specific patters to identify clan membership, and; for having the psychic ability to read the "memory" of any object that they would touch (Psychometry).

Anybody else notice how the more "unstable" Jedi have really bad hair?

Anyway, I really can't figure out if I'm supposed to think of Quinlan Vos as a pirate, a ronin-samurai or Tonto to Obi-Wan Kenobi's Lone Ranger.

What's to like about the Star Wars Vintage Edition Quinlan Vos?

Honestly from the packaging alone, I do believe he's not the best attired Quinlan Vos, and regular collectors - especially those not really familiar with him, may find the figure to be quite plain - and it is.

I mean all he has is what you see here on the right: A lit lightsaber with a green blade, an un-lit lightsaber that clips to his belt, a pistol that can be placed into a holster on his right side, and really bad hair.

But if you're familiar with the character and you love his canon, then you'll love all the minor detailing that went into his facial tattoos, his hair, his hand-wraps, the gold paint in his boots and belt, and event he unique sculpt of his lightsaber.

Plus unlike say General Obi-Wan Kenobi or Boba Fett, Jedi Master Quinlan Vos has the rare articulation of Darth Maul!

Which means his poseability is off the chart:

Note how Quinlan Vos' hair does not interfere with his ability to turn his head. So you know that Jedi Master Quinlan Vos can kick, split, etc... He can also kneel, but there's something a bit off with the way he kneels. Still, the more you pose him, the better he looks:

What's NOT to like about the Star Wars Vintage Edition Quinlan Vos?

Well, even after all that he still looks a bit plain. Perhaps it would have been nice if they gave him a cloak. Quinlan Vos after all wears a cloak. Or perhaps a stand. Anything to give him just that extra premium that should come with a Jedi Master of his notoriety.

And I really am not a fan of his hair. Or perhaps I'm just being too critical. I mean that's probably as good as it gets. I mean look at the Joe Stalker and the Cobra Shadow Tracker.

But what he is a finely articulated figure. If you're a fan of Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, or the Clone Wars, then this is a figure for you. This particular Vintage Quilan Vos was purchased on the black market for PhP 800 (Roughly US$ 18.60). He's available on Amazon for US$ 8.79 (US$ 369 plus shipping - I suppose Amazon agrees with my evaluation).
