Favorite Halloween Cosplays of 2018

Halloween came and went and we couldn't help but be amazed by all the celebrities and models who dressed for the season. They get better and more glamorous with each year. So we thought we'd come up with a list of our favorites as gleamed off of Instagram. We initially started with 5, which grew to 10, which ended at 15. These are in no particular order - though we did save our favorite for last.

Heroes of the Storm: Starcraft James Raynor Action Figure

NECA does indeed delight with this sculpture of the Heroes of the Storm General James Eugene "Jim" Raynor" from the Starcraft video-games.

Now we use the word sculpture because, as you'll soon see, NECA hardly provided him with any articulation.

But given how we've complained about NECA's choice of joints - especially after what happened to our Starcraft November "Nova" Terra figure during her shoot, our expectations on Jim Raynor's pose-ability  wasn't very high.

So we're really fine with referring to him as a sculpture rather than an action figure - though yeah we wish he was an action figure.

Vitruvian HACKS Aiyana Elven Archer - Autumn Guard - Action Figure

One Shot, one Kill

With the drought brought by the lack of new GI Joe toys, the Vitrivian HACKS Aiyana Elven Archer is a refreshing albeit small, glass of water. 

We've been seeing the Vitruvian HACKS (Highly Articulated Character Kit System) around hobby stores in Metro Manila for quite some time and have thought of them for customization projects for G.I. Joes. However they were quite pricey to be discarded just like that so we never got them. This particular Aiyana was borrowed from a fellow collector who asked for help with an issue that we'll discuss later.

Missiletank Robo - Gobots Guardian Blaster

The best there is at what he does.

If he was tan and had a little more brown, we would say that Action Toys was looking to create the Gobot equivalent of Wolverine with their version of Missile Tank Robo.

We had two or three Gobots when we were younger. We definitely had a submarine, the SR-71 Blackbird whom we now know as the Gobot Renegade Snoop the Guardian Submarine Dive-Dive, and this guy - the missile carrying Blaster.

But then we grew up in an age of typewriters, rotary phones and black-and-white dial controlled televisions - we actually didn't know back then who were the bad guys. Snoop, to us, had a to be a good-guy because he was an American spy-plane. Blaster, obviously had to be a Renegade because he looked like one of those Russian missile launchers that we would sometimes see on the news.

Years later, we found out it was the other way around.

Boom Raider: this Youtube video, from Aussie filmakers Fury Fingers, is actually a bit over a year old, but it's a trip! In a nutshell, this is what happens when you deny Lara Croft her "Boom!" In a nutshell she ends up killing everyone, then gets her boom!

Welcome to a public-service post on how to buy toys on the internet. We at the Dungeon also serve as admins on several Facebook toy collector sites and we've noted an increase in the number of people complaining about being scammed by sellers.

These cheated buyers have resorted to publicly shaming the sellers - which shouldn't matter since they're probably fake accounts - however we don't think that these buyers know that they may be facing libel charges under the Philippine Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10175).

There are risks that every buyer takes whenever he makes a purchase - both offline and on-line. It's just easier to return to a real-life seller if you find a defect in a product, and most purchases involve direct exchanges of cash for product. Buying on-line makes is riskier because, in some instances, sellers will demand payment prior to purchase.

Which is where scamming comes into play - though note that scamming can be done both ways.

So here are a few tips to keep you safe while toy collecting through the internet:

Manila Hobbies & Collectibles Convention 2017

All roads are headed to SM Megatrade Hall 3 today for the Manila Hobbies & Collectibles Convention 2017- 5th Level, SM Megamall Building B, SM Megamall, Julia Vargas Avenue, Ortigas Center, 1555 Mandaluyong, Philippines. 

The convention, hosted by Hobbiworx, will run from January 14 to 15 during mall hours. 

There will be an entrance fee of PhP 100 at the gate.

Russian Guardians 2017 English Trailer

iVideos has been kind enough to upload on to their channel, the English dubbed version of the last trailer for the Russian super-hero movie Guardians before it airs in February.

The special effects are not quite up to par with Hollywood - it looks more like a video-game than a movie - but it looks VERY promising! If the world went crazy seeing a Racoon fire off a few rounds, then let's see what happens when a were-bear does it!

Highlights include:

• The Guardians 
• Ler (Sebastien Sisak), the Geomancer. 
• Ursus (Anton Pampushniy), the mini-gun wielding were-bear
• Khan (Sanzhar Madiev): super speed, super strength combined with wicked blades
• Xenia (Alina Lanina): An acrobat with the ability to turn invisible and turn his body into liquid form. She also makes a great Borscht.
• The bad-guy: August Kratov (Stanislav Shirin): Comes with robot army and uses an exoskeleton that allows him to beat up Ler when he's armored up with rocks, and the balls to challenge a big-Russian Bear to hand-to-hand combat. 
• The Avengers level of levity - note the bear wags his tail once he's in the elevator. 

We'd love to see them go toe-to-toe with the Avengers - even if they're outnumbered.

Machine Robo Series 06 Blackbird Robo Snoop Gobot Review

Blackbird Robo AKA the Renegade Swoop

Welcome to a review of Machine Robo Series 06 Blackbird Robo - AKA the Gobot Swoop - from Action Toys.

To the uninitiated, Machine Robo was a series of transformable toys released like Matchboxes in 1982 (34 years ago) by Popy, a division of Bandai. Some of the simply designated Machine Robos were actually even Mecha.

American Toy Maker Tonka loved the idea, licensed it from Bandai, but made them all sentient robots, gave them better names rather than just simple designations, and divided them into "Good-guy" and "Bad-guy" categories - or Guardians and Renegades. The Challenge of the Gobots would rise to give the Transformers a run for their money when the cartoon aired 65 episodes starting in 1984.

Machine Robo meanwhile would have its own 47 episode cartoon released on Tokyo TV from 1986 to 1987 called Machine Robo: Revenge of Chronos (Released as Revenge of the Gobots in the US).

Hasbro eventually won the war though and purchased Tonka and the rights to the Gobots. Unfortunately, as Tonka has only leased the rights to the images of Machine Robo to Tonka, Hasbro owns an empty concept.

We will always remember him as the kind father of Anthony Hopkins in the movie The Remains of the Day (1993).

Emmy Nominated actor Ron Glass - Shepherd Book from Firefly and Serenity - dies at 71

Shepherd Book - Ron Glass - July 10, 1945 – November 25, 2016

Ron Glass, the actor we've come to love for portraying Shepherd Derrial Book from the Firefly TV-series and Serenity, died last November 25  at the age of 71.

Glass, a theater actor, turned to TV and films i 1972 and is best known for his role as the pseudo-Christian preacher and for his role as Detective Ron Harris in the television sitcom Barney Miller (1975–82) for which he received an Emmy nomination.

There's an outtake from the 2005 Serenity movie that was never used where Shepherd Book delivers a prayer for the dead called the "Haven Prayer". It seems fitting to use it here.

"Lord, I'm walking your way. Let me in, for my feet are sore, my clothes are ragged. 

Look in my eyes, Lord, and my sins will play out on them as on a screen. Read them all. 

Forgive what you can and send me on my path. I will walk on until you bid me rest."

The Aliens Facebook page released this teaser poster for the upcoming 2017 Alien:Covenant movie and we have to say that this is one THE MOST horrifying and simple posters ever made. Classic.

Suicide Squad Extended DVD Offer: Harley Quinn's Tattoo Guide

Apparently there is an official Harley Quinn Tattoo Guide that was just released along with the Extended Cut DVD of Suicide Squad.

Despite the misgivings we may have with the film, Suicide Squad at the end of the day is a visual treat.

And one of the definite treats was Harley Quinn.

According to Batman-news.com,  if you purchase the extended version of Suicide Squad via VUDU, you get access to extra content via their IOS application - which includes a tattoo guide for Harley Quinn.

The tattoo guide is a must see for tattoo enthusiasts and cosplayers who love Margot Robbie's version of Harley Quinn.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Man-at-Arms

Never think while you're hungry. 

Welcome to a review of our He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Modern Edition Man-At-Arms.

We've always loved Man-At-Arms: Strong father figure, keeper of some of the deepest secrets of Castle Grayskull (Including the fact that Teela may be his biological daughter with the Sorceress' - at least that's how the 2002 cartoon put it - could. She could also be Fisto's. In 1983 he just adopted her from the Sorceress); weapon-smith, and; leader of the Palace Guard.

The original Man-At-Arms did not have a bushy mustache - we still remember having that figure as a child and wondering why he looked different in the cartoon - it turns out that Filmation added the mustache as an after-thought to make him look older.

Still he was someone we wanted to grow up to be. Actually more than He-Man.
