New 52 Supergirl Action figure

Presenting a Kara Zor-El - Supergirl action figure from the DC New 52 toyline.

Too bad DC decided to create her New 52 Red and blues instead of placing Supergirl in her more recent Red Lantern costume.

Yes to the uninitiated, having been born to a life of strife, loss and death, the New 52 Supergirl is no longer that teenager trying to find her place in the world, and has instead released her anger and joined the dark side as a member of Guy Gardner's Red Lantern Corp - where cursing your enemy usually results in his/her being barbecued.

Frankly we think that the Red Lantern costume is an improvement.

Anyway, prior to that, this less "Gifted" (nudge, nudge, win, wink) cousin of Superman - whom she has fought to a standstill - appears here in the a quite unique remodeling of the traditional Supergirl uniform.

The New 52 Supergirl Action Figure's blister pack reads "She's Supergirl, last daighter of Krypton. Though she years for the home she's lost, Kara Zor-El wil make her place in  strnge new world with courage and determination. Based upon designs from DC Comcs - the New 52"

Whoever wrote that clearly did not see her succumbing to her hatred and becoming Guy Gardner's protege - though it would also be more fun to have watched her turn into one of the original Red Lanterns - those so consumed by hatred that they can barely speak. We think the use of magic to fix this little problem is a cop-out.

What's to like about the New 52 Supergirl Action Figure?

We're frankly not sure. To be perfectly honest we're not sure. We suppose you really have to be a fan of Supergirl to get her. Frankly we picked her up because we thought that her torso was articulated and wanted to know if she could bend where those groove marks are.

Turns out that's just part of her costume.

But we do have to give kudos to the new costume.

We love the cape. There's something quite regal about how it drapes over Supergirl.

And the rest of the costume? Well it pays a fine homage to superman but shows distinction - personality. The open knee boots are unique, but perhaps she should have dropped the red panties in exchange for a full blue body suit as it looks like a diaper or a c-cup panty snapped onto her crotch.

But we suppose we were really drawn to her freaky eyes. What's with that? They're both hypnotically alluring and disturbing at the same time - ice blue irises surrounding dark pupils. Quite unique. Apparently this is a detail that is sometimes lacking from the comic books. Supergirl, Kara Zor-El in the New 52 Universe has crystal blue colored eyes - a trait not found on Earth, but which was apparently common on Krypton. We're glad that DC captured it here:

The New 52 Supergirl Action Figure also comes with what should be the Kryptonian Sunstone she recovered from Simon Tycho's space-station. It would be really weird if that was Kryptonite.

What's to like about the New 52 Supergirl Action Figure?

We think that at this point we should make it clear that the New 52 Supergirl Action Figure isn't a horrible action figure.

It's more that we're not fans.

This is what happens when collectors go out, and buy on impulse instead of sticking to what they know and what they love.

The Dark Lord who purchased it thought she was hot. The rest of us disagreed.

Anyway, there's only one major fault that we can see with this figure: It's from DC Direct so, you guessed it, poor articulation. What you see here is the extent of her poseable articulation - and yes, her cape hampers her movement.

This particular figure was purchased from Planet X Comics in Glorietta for PhP 1,200 (Roughly US$ 27.27). It is available on Amaxon for US$ 23.07 (Roughly PhP 1,038.15 plus shipping). She's for sale if anybody is interested.

  3. Agreed, unless it has good writing, it will be a mess... I mean, since networks sure ain't sharing meal tickets among them (only within theirs, i.e. Flash/Arrow), then the story becomes the deal breaker, and it doesn't look good so far.

  4. Sure dont....
I'm hoping for Lobo to make an appearance - as they missed the opportunity on Smallville.
