Marvel Legends Kitty Pryde

Marvel Legends X-Men Juggernaut BAF Series
Marvel Legends Kitty Pryde
Presenting the X-Man Katherine "Kitty" Pryde AKA Shadowcat from the Marvel Legends X-Men line.

Or Ariana Grande if she was a super-hero.

To the uninitiated, and as of this writing, Kitty Pryde, formerly of the X-Men and currently a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy as the new Star-Lord.

Also as of this writing we're not sure if she and Peter Quill will be getting back together and if she will be relinquishing the title of Star-Lord now that Peter is back with the Guardians.

Anyway, this is Kitty Pryde as she last appeared as the leader/mentor of the time-displaced original-five X-Men and prior to her phasing powers being elevated to cosmic levels - allowing her to phase through anything and phase anything, phase through the multiverse and walk through space. But since the Black Vortex supposedly granted her god-like powers, this is probably just a taste of what she can do.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP

The Marvel Legends Juggernaut BAF series' blister card reads: "With her ability to elude attacks by making herself intangible, Katherine "Kitty Pryde" is an expert of defense."

We first met Shadowcat waaaaaay back in the 80s when she was injured following the Morlock massacre. Kitty was stuck in permanent phase and was starting to "dissolve"

The X-Men went to the Fantastic 4's Mister Fantastic seeking his help. When he refused the X-Men turned to Dr. Doom which resulted in a fight between the X-Men and the Fantastic 4 who were trying to stop Dr. Doom's "cure". Only an "unholy" :) alliance between Mr. Fantastic's son, Franklin and Kitty Pryde's dragon, Lockheed would bring the two teams together and save Shadowcat's life.

What's to like about the Marvel Legends Kitty Pryde Action Figure?

FIRST: She's beautiful. The Kitty Pryde action figure boasts of a brand new facial sculpt which we believe really tries to capture the look of Kitty Pryde as perceived by artist Stuart Immonen (Ultimate X-Men, the New Avengers) especially from her days as the leader of the time-displaced X-Men (All New X-Men #1, November 2012) - albeit her face still carries the deadpan facial expression that Hasbro seems to prefer to give its creations.

Her upper-torso is probably a re-tool and the rest of her is probably recycled parts from other Marvel Legends figures.

SECOND: She has incredibly high articulation. The only articulation lost to her is that taken away by her shoulder pads - so she can't hold her arms straight up.

And yes, Kitty Pryde can kneel:

Note the wrist-rocker joints.

Add a stand since Kitty Pryde is an air-walker thanks to her Phasing power:

THIRD: Lockheed. Lockheed has no real articulation and just sits there. However it was nice of Hasbro to design Lockeed's tail to act as a curling twist to hold him in place:

FOURTHKitty Pryde's size. She fits well with the Mavel Select Colossus. Marvel's wiki puts Colossus' height at 8" in armored form. Kitty Pryde is supposed to be 5'6" tall.

Throw in the mighty 5'3" tall Wolverine:

Size wise she's definitely an upgrade over her previous Giantman incarnation:

What's NOT to like about the Marvel Legends Kitty Pryde Action Figure?

FIRST: That's a lot of flash beneath her chin. We didn't clean it up and we're pretty sure you've noticed it by now in the other picture above. Kinda hard to miss

SECOND: It would have been nice if they gave Kitty Pride a hand that could grasp a sword. Having been trained by Wolverine, the more recent incarnations of Shadowcat involved her using a katana. Given that this particular incarnation of Kitty Pryde doesn't have an open hand to handle anything.

THIRD: Lockheed is pretty much useless.

The Marvel Legends Juggernaut BAF series Kitty Pryde is available on Amazon for US$ 19.99 (Roughly PhP 939.53 plus shipping). This particular Shadowcat was borrowed from a friend here in Fairview and set him back around PhP 1,200 (Roughly US$ 25)

Worth it and an essential part of any X-Man collection.
