GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye

As if you did not know it, Lady Jaye was played by Adrianne Palicki in the GI Joe Retaliation movie. I have to admit that I am not a fan of Friday Night Lights (Which, ironically, never airs on a Friday), nor of Andrianne's quite feeble attempt at being Wonder Woman (Totally miscast. Jamie Alexander - Sif - would have made a better Wonder Woman); but I am a fan of Legion where she played the lead character, Charlie, who gave birth to the savior of mankind. 

To the uninitiated (whaaatttt???), Lady Jaye is the covert operations specialist of the GI Joe Team. There are several Cobra's who are her counterparts, including the Dreadnok Zarana (Both of which prefer not to use complex disguises and instead get along with astounding character changes).

There are a few differences between the cartoon/comic book Lady Jaye and the GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye. Aside from the obvious hair-length, Adrianne Palicki's Lady Jaye is a 1st Lieutenant who was promoted to the rank of Captain by the end of the movie - so again, technically, she was the ranking officer upon the death of the entire GI Joe team, not Roadblock who was just a Sergeant 1st Class. The comic-book version Lady Jaye, Alison R. Hart Burnett is a Staff Sergeant.

Further, the relationship between Lady Jaye and the again lower ranking Warrant Officer Flint is undeveloped in the movie - almost unrequited. You could even say it was more adrenaline driven sexual tension rather than any real romance.

In the Devil's Due non-canonical reboot of the GI Joe series, Lady Jaye is killed by Red Shadows member Dela Eden while trying to save Flint - whom by the way she had married.

GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye's blister card reads "Lady Jaye is a covert ops specialist and weapons expert on the G.I. Joe team. Using her elite intelligence skills she helps uncover an evil Cobra plot. She disguises herself in a daring mission to infiltrate the lair of the enemy to prove the terrifying truth!"

It goes on to say that the package includes "Covert Ops Weapons" so all her weapons are suppressed. However, since when was a bazooka a covert operations weapon?

GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye actually has more gear that the Pursuit of Cobra Steel Brigade Trooper. We can actually think of her as the female version of the Steel Brigade Trooper. Her gear includes:

• A suppressed  M4 Assault Rifle with an under-slung M203 grenade launcher, rail interface system and what I think is a 4X Day Optical Scope, and an extended clip. 
• A suppressed FNH-SCAR with a Forward Handgrip.
• A stock-less, suppressed MP5 with scope
• A suppressed Heckler & Koch MP7 (Thanks to DrSyn in the comments section for the information :) ) with scope
• A tactical Backpack
• A Backpack for the Rocket launcher with 4 removable rockets
• A Rocket-Launching Bazooka. 
• Two combat knives
• 1 machete
• A non-removable tactical kevlar vest
• 1 power javelin.

Now before we start to talk about her assets and liabilities, let's get the white elephant out of the way: Yes GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye is a re-paint of the GI Joe Renegades Scarlett. HOWEVER: Hasbro saw it fit to give her a new head sculpt.

The bad news is that the new head sculpt looks more like Elodie Yung (Jinx) - perhaps this was originally meant to be a Jinx figure - than Adrianne Palicki as you can clearly see below

What's to like about the GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye?

Because Lady Jaye was built over the excellently articulated Renegades Scarlett figure, Lady Jaye is a darling to pose.

It also helps that Hasbro provided her with so many weapons so that you can adapt her to almost any imaginable situation - whether that situation be simple silent killings, infiltration or direct-assault. The only thing that Lady Jaye is not equipped with is a long range sniper rifle - but that can easily be arranged. 

I also have to give Hasbro a nod for giving the GI Joe Retaliation figure heavier weapons. It shows a quite non-sexist admission that women are  as capable of fighting and dying on the field of battle as men are.

And finally Lady Jaye with her Power Javelin. I really have no idea as to whether-or-not there really is a real-life military equivalent of a Power Javelin and Lady Jaye certainly did not use one in the movie. 

At this point I'd like to point out two nice things about the GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye: Her tactical backpack fits like a normal backpack, there is no mounting stud behind it. It just slips up her arms without the need to remove her head, and;

Remember how we talked about how nice Shae Vizla's ass was? Well Lady Jaye is willing to give her a run for her money. It's out there.

What's NOT to like about the GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye?

As with the Renegades Scarlett, Lady Jaye's articulation may be indeed admirable, but she lacks the new wrist joints that most of the Pursuit of Cobra figures had. In fact her wonderful articulation really is more because of her litheness than the actual construction of the figure. An accident so to speak. And why did she have to be a re-sculpt? Does Adrianne Palicki know that her action figure is a re-sculpt?

There's also the issue about who she really looks like - Adrianne Palicki or Elodie Yung.

I suppose another downer is how rare she is, not Jinx rare, but still rare. Why does Hasbro like to cut the number of female troopers created?

This particular GI Joe Retaliation Lady Jaye was purchased from Amazon for US 24.40 including shipping (Roughly PhP 1,000).
