Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime Cold Weapons Sword and Shield

Presenting the Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime Sword and Shield from Cold Weapons.

Now it's actually the FOC/WFC Sword and Shield, but Optimus Prime never manifested a Sword nor a Shield in the War for Cybertron video-game, just a battleaxe - we've actually featured two versions of that Battle-Axe: The Dream Maker Warriors from Cyborgtron Optimus Prime upgrade and the Eternal Warfare Weapons of Destruction CV-001 War Axe (Not to be confused with the UFO War Axe and Shield for the Transformers Dark of the Moon Optimus Prime).

In the Fall of Cybetron video game, Optimus Prime abandons his traditional battleaxe and manifests instead a sword and shield identical to the one used by Megatron.

There's nothing on the blister card of the Cold Weapons Sword and shield set. But then it is a 3rd party aftermarket product so they probably don't want to advertise where Hasbro can send the subpoena. And besides, a sword and shield? Pretty straight forward. It doesn't take much to figure out what goes where and how.

There are five parts in the set, the main body of the sword, a detachable pommel; the shield proper, the inner "energy" part of the shield that can be removed, and the pin/mount that holds the entire shield in place and allows you to mount it on Prime's arm.

What's to like about the Cold Weapons Sword and Shield for the Fall of Cybetron Optimus Prime?

It's a simple thing that goes a long way in making such a mundane figure such as the Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime (I called it a so-so transformer when I reviewed it) and gives it that much needed pep to make it totally bad-ass.

The Cold Weapons Sword is made from hard plastic and - get this - it's sharp! I actually tried to use it - successfully as a letter opener, but it's not sharp enough to cut skin, so don't worry - but I wouldn't dare falling on it.

The Cold weapons shield is cool because you can actually replace the inner plastic. Chances are, there will be other "filters" that will enter the market later - or you can make your own. I think that this little customization gimmick - which may actually be accidental (Don't really know) - is a nice touch.

It's also happily big enough to cover Optimus Prime - unlike the buckler used by the DOTM DA-28 Striker Optimus Prime and even the aftermarket UFO War Axe and Shield set.

Combined with the high articulation of the ball-jointed but barrel chested Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime the Cold Weapons Sword and Shield looks really really cool:

Note that Prime can actually hold the shield in his hand, but it's much easier to just mount it on the slot on his forearm. The sword is actually quite comparable to the one wielded by the Fall of Cybertron Ultra Magnus - though the Cold Weapons Sword doesn't split into two weapons. Magnus's sword is also quite dull.

Speaking of weapons comparisons, here's the Cold Weapons Sword and Shield against The Dream Maker Warriors from Cyborgtron Optimus Prime upgrade and the Eternal Warfare Weapons of Destruction CV-001 War Axe:

What's NOT to like about the Cold Weapons Sword and Shield for the Fall of Cybetron Optimus Prime?

Nothing. Actually what's wrong with it is that it's supposed to be paired with the Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime. When you do so, the over-all look tends to be quite dull and everything becomes mute and dull.

Because of this, I had to bring out the Takara version of the Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime whose brighter colors made the pictorial pop.

This particular Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime Cold weapons Sword and Shield was purchased on Ebay through djfungshing for P1,604.40 (Roughly US$ 35.64, free shipping in Asia). It is not available on Amazon.

THIS IS SPARTA!!!!
