Marvel Legends Captain America - The Winter Soldier

Presenting Captain America from the Marvel Legends The Winter Soldier series.

When the Heroic Age of the Marvel Universe started following the fall of Norman Osborne from power, there were two Captain Americas and Steve Rogers decided to give up his shield to Bucky Cap and assumed the title of Commander Rogers as the new Head of SHIELD. The position came with a new costume which we was redesigned/used in the Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie - which we now see here.

We were frankly a bit concerned in the early trailers that showed Cap as Commander Rogers because frankly we believe that Bucky makes a horrible Captain America. He simply does any moral ascendancy and he's a charismatic bore and we could not bear to see Bucky Cap - especially since the guy needs his uniform to remind him where his genitals are.

As if to prove this point, the Marvel Legends Captain America The Winter Soldier Captain America Action Figure's blister pack reads "Science made Steve Rogers a super-soldier, but his heart makes him a hero!" Bucky has no heart.

Anyway enough about that pathetic excuse for a Captain America, let's talk about the Elephant in the room: Captain America's shield is blue. And it was blue as well in the movie, specifically in the battle with Batroc the Leaper in the Lemurian Star.

According to the Directors, this was because Captain America was on a "Stealth" mission and since they wanted to make everything as "real world" as possible they decided to give his shield a less distracting hue (Though frankly if they wanted to do that, then it's not the red they should have removed, it's that glaring reflective silver star and stripe.).

We personally have this theory that - given the fact that Captain America really didn't have time for it - that he actually now has two shields - one with the blue, and the other one that fell into the Potomac.

The Marvel Legends Winter Soldier Captain America comes with everything you see here, a pair of hand changes, a shield, and a replacement, skull-cap less, head. Oh and the left leg of the Mandroid BAF.

What's to like about the Captain America The Winter Soldier Marvel Legends Captain America?

The detailing! We have to give kudos to all the detail that went into Captain Americas uniform. It's very modern and you can imagine that it's mostly kevlar and padding all over his body protecting him.

And if you look closer at the uniform you'll see that his costume does not have a smooth surface, it's textured.

Even Captain America's mask is textured. Can you imagine the amount of work that went into making the mold for this action figure? Look at the little grooves on the star on his chest. When you think about it, no one would have noticed if they weren't there, but Marvel did us a solid and added that little detail that tells us they care.

Even the back of Captain America's shield is nicely riveted and the leather bindings are stressed:

We love the fact that you can swap out Captain America's head, and haven't quite figure out which one we prefer:

And although there is some coaxing required, the Steve Rogers head can be interchanged with the Marvel Now Captain America's head:

Articulation is, of course, excellent:

The Marvel Legends Winter Soldier Captain America can kneel and you can swap out his hands to make him lead the charge of salute:

What's NOT to like about the Captain America The Winter Soldier Marvel Legends Captain America?

This is supposed to be based upon the movie right? Captain America looks nothing like Chris Evans. He looks more like Steve Rogers from the comic book.

And even THAT similarity take some swallowing.

To begin with: Isn't he a little.... scrawny to be Captain America? Maybe it's the shield. Maybe it's too big, but in the movie, you could barely see the shield from behind Christ Evan's chest. Here? it's everywhere:

Also, unlike in the movie where Captain America simply puts his shield on his back where magnetic clamps hold it in place, there is no way that the Marvel Legends The Winter Soldier Captain America can emulate that. He does not have the ability to hold his shield back there. In this case, it's being held there by blue tack.

The Marvel Legends the Winter Soldier Captain America also has really small hands:

And if you notice from the movie pic, yes, Captain America does have an American flag on his left shoulder. But he does not have a "Rogers" on the same shoulder:

So it's really kinda hard to take him seriously.

This particular Marvel Legends Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Captain America was purchased in the Black Market of St Francis Square here in Ortigas, Philippines for PhP 1, 195 (Roughly US$ 26.11) He is available of Amazon for US$ 17.99 (Roughly PhP 809.55 plus shipping). Kinda hard to find him here in the Philippines.

  2. Hi Cassiotkg! Thanks! It's being held in place by blue-tack - a sticky putty like substance similar but sticker than clay or playdough that you can buy in art store or bookstores.
