STAR WARS Luke Skywalker Bespin Fatigues

Presenting Luke Skywalker in the fatigues as he appeared in the Cloud City of Bespin in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes back - from the Star Wars Vintage Toy Series.

Here's the thing that confuses us though: This is commonly referred to as Luke Skywalker in his Rebel Uniform right? Has anyone ever seen anyone else in the rebel army dressed this way? A quick review of our rather vast collection says no. It's clearly military given the number of pockets making it quite reminiscent of modern military uniforms, but it does not have any insignias nor does it appear any where else.

A work jumpsuit perhaps? Something many people just assumed was a rebel uniform.


Still with the probably exception of his black Jedi Uniform, this is probably the most iconic of Luke Skywalker uniforms and one of the most memorable as it is the uniform used by Luke when he first confronts his father.

We're not sure why we don't have the blister pack of this particular figure. Chances are we purchased it loose of the black market. There's nothing back there anyway. We don't know if people have noticed that there is a is a clear progression in Luke's appearance coinciding with whenever he sees Darth Vader. In A New Hope, Luke is dressed in all white; In The Empire Strikes Back, he's dressed in these gray Bespin Fatigues, and; in Return of the Jedi, Luke wears the close to the Dark Side of the Force color Black.

Are we the only ones to notice the hair color change?

The Vintage Edition Star Wars Luke Skywalker Bespin Fatigues Action figure comes with everything you see here: A lit lightsaber (That once belonged to his father Anakin Skywalker), an unlit lightsaber that can be pegged into his utility belt, and a DL-44 Heavy Blaster that can be holstered.

What's to like about the STAR WARS Luke Skywalker Bespin Fatigues Vintage action Figure?

We loved the weathered detailing that went into Luke's Bespin Fatigues. At certain points it almost looks like you can lift the flaps on his thighs and chest. The designers even bothered to include the clasps on his chest that keep the flaps closed and adding a line-texture around his collar. 

We love the holster/utility belt even though there is some limiting done by the leg strap to the overall movement of the character. We are particularly fond of how the hole for the peg of his lightsaber is not part of the belt per-se but hangs underneath it, ensuring the more movie-accurate look of the figure where the lightsaber hangs FROM his belt not on it. 

Articulation of the Star Wars Luke Skywalker Bespin Fatigues Vintage Action Figure is also excellent, and the ability to draw his DL-44 from his holster allows for some really cool poses:

Kneeling for Luke is a bit difficult because of the "ball" style knee joint instead of a double-joint, but it can still be done.

And of course, where would Luke be without his lightsaber?

What's NOT to like about the STAR WARS Luke Skywalker Bespin Fatigues Vintage action Figure?

Well we're not too fond about his facial sculpt. But then we have to take into account that this is the Luke Skywalker after Mark Hamil bashed up his face in a car accident - hopefully it was not drug related.

Sometimes it looks like him. Sometimes.... not that much.

Also we don't know if it's just a specific factory defect to our particular figure or a problem in general: Luke's upper torso pops out of it's ball socket.

Still one of the most iconic figures of the Star Wars Universe.

Definitely an upgrade - though the Vintage Series Luke's hand doesn't pop off.
