Presenting Star Wars' Ulic Qel-Droma from the 2009 Star Wars Comic Book 2-pack featuring Ulic Qel-Droma and Exar Kun. Ulic Qel-Droma's story is actually an interesting one: The child of a reknown Jedi Knight, Ulic Qel-Droma is an arrogant, brash and reckless Jedi Knight who falls to the Dark Side in an attempt to avenge his fallen Master.
He becomes an unapologetic genocidal scourge of the universe apprenticed to Rogue Jedi and now Dark Lord, Exar Kun.
Ulic Qel-Droma was armed with the Sith Superweapon: The Dark Reaper (later destroyed by Anakin Skywalker) that killed by draining the Force from all living things.
Ulic Qel-Droma believed that the Republic is weak and the Sith Empire would bring in a Golden Age. He ends up killing his brother and - while torn with grief - is attacked by his girlfriend: Jedi Nomi Sunrider - who uses an archaic Jedi Technique to cut Ulic Qel-Droma off from the force. Still he ends up helping the Jedi kill Dark Lord Exar Kun.
Ulic Qel-Droma goes into hiding seeking redemption for his crimes against the universe and trying to re-establish his connection with the Force. Ends up training Nomi Sunrider's daughter (Not his) and eventually gets shot and dies.
It's a beautiful story of youthful arrogance to tempered desire for redemption - save for the pretty pathetic ending.
But the story apparently is inspiring enough that an un-opened 2009 Star Wars Comic Book 2-pack featuring Ulic Qel-Droma and Exar Kun actually costs a whopping US$ 349.99 plus shipping on Amazon or roughly PhP 15,000. And for some strange reason, people actually buy it. The bad news is that I got Ulic Qel-Droma loose on E-bay. The good news is that I only paid PhP 350 for him or roughly US$ 8.
The two pack's blister card reads "Ulic Qel-Droma is battling the dark side of the Force; he believes that if he can conquer it, he will avenge the death of his master. He is attacked by Exar Kun, who feels the Jedi is a threat to his goals. As the two battle, they are unaware that Sith Lords from the past have other plans for their destiny.

So What's to like about Ulic Qel Droma?
You have to appreciate that this is a new sculpt. Though there is some debate as to whether or not Ulic Qel-Droma is a salvaged Han Solo head. Personally I don't see it.
You also have to love the tattered beat up look of Ulic Qel-Droma's outfit - apparently the Jedi could not afford more durable clothing. The detail of this figure is quite exquisite. Ulic Qel-Droma comes across as very battle worn yet he still has a confident look on his face. He's almost smug.
What's not to like about Ulic Quel-Droma?
Also that's not Ulic Qel-Droma's lightsaber. After the detail that we witnessed with Darth Revan and Malak and even the newer Jedi where particular detail was given so that you could even start distinguishing each Jedi just by their lightsabers, it was disappointing that Ulic Qel-Droma was given a generic lightsaber. Ulic Qel-Droma's actual lightsaber has three sharp points at the hilt.
All-in-all if you were to spend a small fortune to have a figure like this, it really might be more worth it if you paid a customizer to make you your own Ulic Qel-Droma It would be cheaper and you might get more distinguishing detail out of it and better articulation.
Still, because of the Amazon price and the historical significance of Ulic Qel-Droma, this is definitely a nice figure to have.
Nice!
