Jon Boyega (Star Wars Episode VII, Attack the Block) released this photo of the script (?) of Pacific Rim 2, on the first day of shooting.

Given what a Maelstrom is, it sounds like the breach will be re-opened with force.
John Boyega will be playing the son of the Marshal Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) in the movie.
