Facebook brought to my attention this fan-art creation from someone named Dorman, which features Darth Vader puncturing Captain Amerca's shield with his lightsaber. This got me thinking: "Can this actually happen?" Lightsabers are indeed elegant weapons but they have difficulty cutting through bulkheads and blastshields, so would a man-made shield that could stand and repel the mightiest blows of a Thunder-god, stand up to it?
