Marvel Universe Rhino

Presenting the Rhino from the Marvel Universe Series 5 toyline.

To the uninitiated, the Rhino is Russian enforcer Aleksei Mikhai-lovich Sytsevich. He was chosen by the mob to undergo radiation and chemical experimentation because... get this.... "They thought he was stupid so they could control him"

Anyway, like the Hulk, the Marvel Universe's Rhino is Gamma Radiation born. Like the hulk, the Gamma Radiation gave Aleksei enhanced strength, endurance, resistance to injury and speed. To give him even more strength and resistance to injury the Russian mob bonded a suit to his skin that made him stronger, faster and more resistant to injury. The suit was later destroyed and the Rhino today uses a suit that isn't bonded to his skin.

The Marvel Universe Rhino's blister card reads: "Modeled after the evolutionary perfection of the rhinoceros' plates, the indestructible polymer armor fused to Rhino allows him to demolish whatever gets in his way."

We're not really sure about the "Evolutionary perfection" part but the Marvel Universe Rhino's suit can stand up to anti-tank weaponry and boosts his strength so that he can lift 100 tons. While known to be an opponent of Spider-Man, the Rhino's strength, durability and Gamma radiation origins have led to multiple clashes with the Hulk with whom he has stood toe-to-toe with.

What's to like about the Marvel Universe Rhino?

First: Look to the left, Wonderfully textured skin reminiscent of a Rhinoceros' textured hide complete with a plethora of bumps and warts. Even his horn is textured to resemble what it really is: hardened hair.

Second is his articulation, you can clearly see that the Marvel Universe Rhino is a brawler, and his articulation reflects that.

Yes, he can't kneel, but charging offensive-linesmen do not kneel, they crouch then goo through or trample over everything in their path

Here's a close up of the Rhino's head, see that textured horn? You also have to love that snarl

And here's a look at the Marvel Universe Rhino's articulation:

Third did you notice that he is a relatively densely heavy Marvel Universe figure, who is top heavy, but Rhino is standing on one leg in a difficult (For Marel Universe figures) action pose.

And the Marvel Universe Rhino slips into these poses with little difficulty, even with the additional weight:

Eventually he probably hopes to do this:

What's NOT to like about the Marvel Universe Rhino?

Well at times he looks like he really just needs more fiber in his diet.

Other than that, nothing. Maybe a change of hands or head, but nothing much other than that. The Marvel Universe Rhino was a darling to work with and we had fun shooting him beating the crap out of Spider-Man because he was so easy to pose.

This particular Marvel Universe Rhino was purchased from Toy Kingdom in Megamall here in the Philippines at the retail price of PhP 599.75 (Roughly US$ 13.63). He is available on Amazon for US$ 14.64 (Roughly PhP  644.16 plus shipping).

A must have especially if you are a Spider-man lover (Or hater).
