Presenting my STAR WARS 30th Anniversary Coin Collection.
It is finished. I am done.
In 2005 STAR WARS commemorated the 30th anniversary of "The Power of the Force." "The Power of the Force" was a toyline released by Kenner in 1985 which featured a collectible coin with each figure. I'm old enough to have actually encountered those, but I didn't have the finances to get them all.
30 years later, Star Wars released its 30th Anniversary Coin Collection set which prompted me to collect 60 coins and put these coins into a special album that showcased a summary of all the major Star Wars characters from the 6 films.
I bought the album but wasn't sure if I could ever finish the collection. But the thing snowballed and it became something of an obsession. So after five years of flying out of the country with my wife to dredge the toy-stores of Singapore and Hongkong, abusing friends and family by using them as mules to carry toys across international borders, and loving Amazon, I was down to one hole: The clone trooper in training fatigues.
I posted that hole last year and friends gave me leads and pointed me towards where I could get it. Unfortunately none of those panned out. I either lost the bid or - in the case of one ebay purchase - the seller realized that he had posted the wrong image on ebay and I had won the clone trooper without the coin (Happily he refunded my money and let me keep the trooper, nice guy.)
Yesterday, I chanced upon the actual warehouse of Greattoysonline. And lo and behold, there it was, sitting alone and lonely on the floor of the warehouse (Which is a hard thing to see when you're 6'2 and forced to move between racks that are spaced less than two feet apart). I was moved almost to tears as my five year journey had finally come to its end.
Last night, the last coin was put into its rightful place.
