Pop Culture Community raises money for Disaster Relief Effort

I soo want this version of the Beast

Comic and Toy fans put their money where their hearts were last weekend for the first ever Heroes Give Hope  charity auction.  The Live Online Auction event featured dozens of custom made action figures and works of  art specially commissioned for the event, and raised nearly $1000.00 for the Disaster relief agency ConvoyofHope.org

Sponsored by internet Auction House TheBigToyAuction.com, the first of its kind event showcased the talents of both professional and amateur artists from a broad range of fields.  Each artist was asked to create and donate a piece in the theme of "everyday heroes."  Pieces ranged from a tongue-in-cheek GI Joe based custom "bootleg" figure by Suckadelic Toys to UK Illustrator Dave Williams' original print featuring dozens of minimalist interpretations of Comic, TV, and Movie heroes arranged to form the word "Hope." The big item of the night, selling for $125.00 was a watercolor painting of the Iconic He-Man and Battlecat Figures by artist Jonathan Reincke.  Other works included versions of Batman, Transformers, the X-Men, Micronauts and Star Wars as well as a number of original creations.

Toy News: Artists Combine forces to Become Heroes for Disaster Relief Effort

You gotta love this poster

In the wake of numerous natural disasters throughout the early part of this year, the virtual world has heeded the call to help out the real world in it's time of need.  Almost as soon as the news was released  about the devastating earthquakes throughout Japan, online communities began to rally around the cause. On Facebook, Twitter, and across thousands of blog sites and internet forums, many began asking what they could do to help. As later reports of the Joplin tornadoes and East African drought began to make their way into the media, it became clear that action would be needed.

In response to these crises, A group of comic and toy artists have banded together to donate their talents to the "Heroes Give Hope" charity auction.  Through the auction of these works of art, the Pop Culture community is raising funds for ConvoyofHope.org's continuing disaster relief  efforts.  These dedicated donors from around the world have each offered up many one-of-a-kind pieces to be sold in this unique online Live-Auction event, with 100% of the hammer price of each going directly to Convoy of Hope.

Toy collectors unite to help Japan

Here's something that toy collectors can do to help the victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. Convoy of Hope and The Big Toy Auction are teaming up to hold the "Heroes Give Hope" benefit auction. Donated and created toys, artworks, and more will be auctioned off in a Live Auction event on Sunday, July 10, 2011, starting at 3:00 PM EDT (and 3 AM, Manila Time).

The online catalog allows absentee bidding up to the day of the event. The Big Toy Auction also uses a unique streaming technology to allow bidders to bid real-time on the day of the auction from wherever you are in the world. One hundred percent (yes, all of it!) of the final hammer price of each item sold will go directly to Convoy of Hope for their efforts on the ground in distributing much-needed food and supplies to those affected by the disasters in Japan.

Japan has a special place in the hearts of toy collectors because it is where many iconic toys came from like Pokemon, Gundam, Voltes V, etc. If you're interested to be a donor, you can visit The Big Toy Auction for more details.

So, don't forget to save that date--July 10, 2011 at 3 PM EDT (3 AM, Manila time). It's a great way to get rare finds and help, at the same time.
