Quiet - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Presenting the Play Arts Kai version of Quiet from the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain video game.

Quiet - a sniper deprived of her words (She's mute) - will be one of the playable characters in the latest installment of Metal Gear Solid V (The Phantom Pain) which will be released in September of this year. Quiet's motion capture and general appearance is based upon Dutch born Japanese model and actress Stefanie Joosten.

Quiet is the subject of much controversy for obvious reasons. Even Ms. Joosten was surprised by her lack of clothing. Quiet and Metal Gear's creator Hideo Kojima was quoted as saying "I know there's people concerning about 'Quiet' but don't worry. I created her character as an antithesis to the women characters appeared in the past fighting game who are excessively exposed. 'Quiet' who doesn't have a word will be teased in the story as well. But once you recognize the secret reason for her exposure, you will feel ashamed of your words & deeds. The response of 'Quiet' disclosure few days ago incited by the net is exactly what 'MGSV' itself is."

This of course sparked the rumor that Quiet is actually the character Chico having undergone a sex change following the death of Paz Ortega Andrade.

Stefanie Joosten has since dismissed this theory.

Well we've watched the various gameplay trailers for MGSV Phantom Pain online and... we're stil not ashamed of our words & deeds. We still think that she's waaaaaay under-dressed and really is probably the result of game designer Yoji Shinkawa misunderstanding Hideo Kojima instruction to create a "more erotic" character.

Metal Gear Solid V Phanton Pain Quiet's blister pack doesn't say anything about the character. Hideo Kojima stated that she is the primary heroine of the game but you will have to play MGSV Phantom Pain to find out if she is good or evil.

It was revealed in an on-line trailer that Quiet has the ability to turn invisible and move at super-speeds. She's a great character to use as a "buddy" in MGSV Phantom Pain's new "buddy system" as she provides sniper support.

Whenever Quiet uses her stealth powers an inkblot pattern appears around her eyes. The PlayArts Kai figure provides an alternative head for Quiet so that you can achieve this look.

Quiet comes with an - as of this writing - unidentified sniper rifle, a standard AMD114 pistol, a wicked looking knife and a display stand that we didn't bother to use. She also comes with the aforementioned interchangeable head, and three right hand and two left hand options.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE PLAY ARTS KAI QUIET ACTION FIGURE FROM METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.

Yeah we are beginning this review with what we HATE about the Play Arts Kai Quiet Action figure. Honestly we collect toys for various reasons and one of the reasons is the uniqueness of the action figure. It's the not the sexiest action figure in the market, we have sexier. We're fans of Snake - kinda (Someone should put that dog down). But what really made us want to get this particular action figure was an internet rumor that she would come with soft, poseable breasts. A first for action figures.

FIRST: Perfect example of DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON THE INTERNET. As sadly, she does not.

Now don't get us wrong, there is some pliability there - you can FORCE them together as the twitter feed of Hideo Kojima suggests (Eventually you'll probably break the skin) - but it is nowhere near the soft squishiness of funbags that we were hoping for.

SECOND: A secondary reason (No really, trust us :) ) that we were hoping for pliable breasts is that the sniper rifle needs to slide into her shoulder pocket. Anything other than that and you will end up with a dislocated shoulder. Play Arts Kai Quiet's breasts actually prevent this. It's high. close enough we suppose,

THIRD: Given that Play Arts Kai MGSV The Phantom Pain Quiet is sooo scantily clad, she's anatomically lacking something that should be protruding from her really undersized bra.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE PLAY ARTS KAI QUIET ACTION FIGURE FROM METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.

FIRST: Are we really going to complain about the way Quiet is dressed? HELL NO!!!! :)

Okay it's a bit perverted and really inappropriate for any possible terrain that the game takes you too. Hell her bra is too small!

But this is a video game, not a national issue. It's primarily targeted towards men who are playing out a fantasy scenario that involves old geezers. So Hideo Kojima's decision to add a young sexy character is just good marketing and if you watch the gameplay trailers on-line, her unique stealth and sniping abilities make her an important "buddy" or playable character.

And these really look great so let's get it out of our system :)

SECOND:  The incredibly high articulation. It's a Play Art Kai figure. Of course it comes with extremely high articulation and a joy to pose even without her stand. She seems reed thin and top heavy but we had no problem making her stand:

The Play Arts Kai MGSV The Phantom Pain Quiet has no problem crouching or sitting:

And as you've seen above, Play Arts Kai Quiet has no problem kneeling:

We mentioned above that MGSV Quiet's Breasts do get in the way of her properly holding her sniper-rifle, BUT! She can stare down the scope of the rifle. She can't actually put her eye to the scope, but in close combat situations - which is how she'll be used in the game - blinding yourself by sticking your eye to the scope is not recommended anyway.

You know what Quiet needs? A suppressor. That's gotta be a loud gun making it useless in a stealth game.

The Play Arts Kai MGSV The Phantom Pain Quiet can hold her pistol with both hands:

And when all else fails, MGSV Quiet can fall back on her combat knife:

Here's what the Play Arts Kai Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Quiet looks like with her "powers" activated:

This particular Square Enix Play Arts Kai Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Quiet Action Figure - wow that's a mouthful - was purchased as a part of a barter agreement. She is available on Amazon for US$ 139.99 (Roughly PhP 6, 299.00) plus shipping.

She's still worth it, even without the squishy boobs. :)
