Marvel Legends Thundra

Presenting the  head of the United Sisterhood Empire of North America, Thundra!

If you've got abs, flaunt them.

To the uninitiated, Thundra is a visitor to the mainstream Marvel Universe from a future alternate time-line where Earth is now known as Femizonia and is ruled by Amazon like female warriors.

Thundra came to the mainstream Marvel Universe to challenge the Thing and prove the dominance of women by beating the one male whom the Femizonias viewed as the most powerful in the 616 Earth - which is ironic since we know from the latest Fantastic Four movie, that the Thing lacks a specific male part.

Thundra would eventually become something of an anti-hero in the Marvel Universe. Thundra would stand toe-to-toe with the Hulk, become the head of the United Sisterhood Empire of North America, fall in love with the Thing, but eventually give her heart to another Earth 616 interdimensional visitor, Arkon the Magnificent, ruler of Polemachus, and become mother to the She-Hulk (Lyra). Thundra will join the Squadron Supreme when the dust settles from the on-going Secret Wars.

Marvel Legends Thundra is a part of the "Fearless Defenders" of the Hulkbuster Build A Figure (BAF) series. She is an alternate figure for Valkyrie and her blister pack simply reads "With the unbreakable Dragonfang sword and a heavy steel chain, these heroines bring evil to its knees."

You gotta love cost-cutting in trade marketing.

What's to like about the Marvel Legends Thundra?

FIRST: The end of the dead-pan facial expressions that have been plaguing the Marvel Legends Action Figures.

Back when we reviewed Captain America, Gamora and even the Scarlet Witch we noted how Marvel seemed to have given these characters the personalities of paste. They had no facial expression whatsoever - which is fine in most cases, but these were bordering on figures with "the lights on but nobody's home" sydrome.

So we're really happy that Thundra comes with that gritty, determined "I'm about to take on the Hulk and I know it will hurt but I don't care!" look - which, at certain angles, is really quite beautiful.

SECOND: Marvel Legends Thundra is a joy to pose. Her articulation is pretty high though you lose some of it due to the size of her breasts which prevents her arms from crossing across her chest. But other than that, we had fun posing her. The ball and chain is a wonderful accessory for her. We wish it was longer though:

Thundra also has a wonderful posterior:

Now for some more dynamic poses:

And yes, the Marvel Legends Thundra can kneel - not that she would for any man:

What's NOT to like about the Marvel Legends Thundra?

FIRST: Her hair. That shock of bright red is solid plastic and does hamper her ability to turn her head. You can though. Just a tad bit. It's the biggest hindrance to Thundra's articulation.

Then there are the aforementioned funbags - which, for her height and build, are still pretty normal sized.

And of course, that ball and chain really could have been longer - and more pliable. It's pretty much stuck in that shape.

The Marvel Legends Thundra Hulkbuster BAF is available on Amazon for US$ 21.99 (Roughly PhP 989.55 plus shipping)

Now all we need to do is complete the  Lady Liberators

Catch Thundra when she returns with the Squadron Supreme:
