DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan Action Figure

DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan
Presenting the Green Lantern Hal Jordan from the DC Comics Icons toyline.

We don't quite understand what happened in Convergence. Personally we've always thought that the so called :"Crisis" events of DC were so metaphysically difficult to understand. Marvel's recent version of "Crisis" was easier to understand. Both DC and Marvel ask that you purchase a boat-load of comic books if you want to have even the slightest hope of understanding them.

Anyway, the current Hal Jordan has been completely rebooted, and instead of sporting a power-ring, he now sports a vintage power gauntlet and power-pack, a really bad haircut, a trenchcoat, and a hoodie that brings Hal back to the days when he was the Spectre.

All in an effort to restore the reputation of the Green Lantern Corp by drawing the blame for the Corp's failure to keep order in the galaxy to him - being the figurative leader of the Corp.

The DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan action figure's blister card says nothing about one of the greatest heroes of all time, but it does give us a glimpse at the other figures being launched in the series, including the Flash, Blue Beetle, Black Adam and Lex Luthor.

To our knowledge, only Hal Jordan comes with extra accessories, specifically:

  • A complete set of ring projected armor - that require you to detach his forearms to use
  • A ring projected "Fist" that can be mounted over his right arm
  • Two alternative fists
  • A Power Battery

What's to like about the DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan Action Figure?

FIRST: His armor and gear are modular. Ever since the release of the Green Lantern movie there have been a lot of "gimmicks" to reflect the power of the Green Lanterns, but to our knowledge, this is the first Green Lantern to utilize a modular set of armor. If you don't like the guns, remove them. Leg armor too clunky? Remove them. Keep the jet-pack but remove the wings? No problem.

Unfortunately we're not sure if Hal Jordan ever projected such an armor. It's certainly not what he used in Justice League War, and we always thought armor was Rayner's thing - but then again it has wings which is a Hal Jordan thing.

Here's the complete armor:

SECOND: The high articulation of the DC Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan Action Figure.

He's got ball jointed elbows and hips; double-jointed elbows and knees; abs that can crunch, an upper chest that can twist; a head mounted on a ball joint; feet that can move and get this: actual wrist articulation! He can bend both wrists up and down.

This is quite a surprising development considering that DC is not known for figures with high articulation. Normally they just sit there in one static pose. This particular figure was meant to be posed.

Combined with a nice stand, the DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan Action figure was a definite joy to pose.

Yes, the DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan can kneel:

What's NOT to like about the DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan Action Figure?

FIRST: That armor was a nightmare to pose. Whenever we think we got it right where we wanted it, something would fall off and we've have to start all over again. The biggest problem is the torso armor. It doesn't really fit him well and jostles a lot. The groin guard helps to keep it in place but not by much. Eventually we resorted to adding blue-tack to hold it in place. The torso armor kept knocking off his shoulder pauldrons which are just clipped on. The flight pack kept falling off. The leg armor - which is locked in place kept falling off - particularly his upper leg plates.

Literally no fun.

SECOND:The DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan Action Figure is short. He sports the new lean look that we believe started in the new animated movies, and stands barely 6 inches tall.

To give a sense of perspective, our Hal Jordan from the DC Direct Blackest Night Series stands at around 6.75 inches tall and is... beefier.

As a result, this particular Green Lantern stands alone in our collection.

He fits in better with the 6" DC Universe figures, but you'll quickly find that this particular "bright" colored action figures does not blend well with the matte colored DC Universe figures, and the DC universe figures still have better articulation than this Icon figure.

The DC Comics Icons Green Lantern Hal Jordan Action Figure is available on Amazon for US$ 25.52 (Roughly PhP 1,224.96 plus shipping and import taxes). A very nice action figure though. We hope DC continue the line.
