Presenting an Evasion Mode Optimus Prime upgraded with Reprolabels and accessorized with Fans-Want-It's  FWI-5 Advanced Weapons Collection.

For the record, this is the Takara AD02 Evasion Mode Optimus Prime with the head of the Platinum Edition Evasion Mode Optimus Prime. We removed the head of our Platinum Edition Evasion Mode Optimus Prime when we upgraded him with the DX-9 Armor, so we changed our AD02's head because we're partial to the face plate..

We actually have seven Evasion Mode Optimus Primes in the Dungeon, including two KOs (Nemesis Prime plus the Prime that came with a DX-9 armor KO set). We did a quick count and there is a three-way tie for the most number of Optimus Prime variants in the Dungeon. With seven variants each, the three-way-tie is between the Evasion Mode Optimus Primes; the Classics Optimus Primes and; the DOTM/ROTF Leader Class Optimus Primes.

To break the tie, we shall soon acquire the Hasbro version of the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime that we more or less ignored.

What's to like about the Reprolabels for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime?:

FIRST: The weathered look. Before we go even deeper into that, we should probably take the time to mention that there are only two official Evasion mode Optimus Primes that come close to his appearance in the movie - gray and rusted - the Rusty version, and the Break-out battle Optimus Primes. Both sported the golden flames that none of the other Hasbro or Takara Primes sported.

So no amount of Reprolabels will make your regular Evasion Mode Prime movie-accurate. But it does look cool! Check out that bumper! The Reprolabels set for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime really works wonders to make Optimus' truck-form pop.

The license plate we used says "Con Voy" - which we felt was fitting for a Takara piece. The other alternate license plate reads "Prime."

Aside from the bumper, we're particular fond of the metallic windshield. We did not use most of the "Bullet hole" stickers. We felt that they were a bit too tacky.

What's NOT to like about the Reprolabels for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime?:

Sadly the Reprolabels don't quite pop for Optimus Prime in robot mode. In fact, unless you look at his legs you won't really recognize the changes. Maybe if we added the bullet holes.

There are also Reprolabels for the rifle of the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime, but we're not too keen on them.

What's to like about the FWI-5 Advanced Weapons Collection for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime?:

FIRST: WEAPONS! And such glorious weapons they are. The FWI-5 Advanced Weapons Collection pack is a collection of weapons mostly used by Optimus Prime in his previous incarnation in the Transformers; Transformers Dark of the Moon, and; Transformers Revenge of the Fallen movies - and a few weapons of unknown origin.

SECOND: The FWI-5 Advanced Weapons Collection for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime is the first of three Fants Want It sets that will complete an Armored Weapons Platform for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime. FWI-6 which is already in the market will provide the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime with a DOTM-like Jetwing upgrade. FWI-7 will be the like the UFO Annular trailer of Optimus Prime.

FWI-5 includes the following:
  • Dual Energon Swords: According to the Transformers wiki, these battle blades are charged with quantum 5 kilo-joules per second electric generators and burn at around 1,000 degrees Celcius. Both blades made their debut in the 2007 movie. There are two pegs in each blade, allowing you to mount the blade so that it looks like a wrist extension, or allowing Optimus to hold them like regular swords. It's also possible to peg both swords into one hand to create a "Darth Maul" like weapon:

  • A paid of shields. These are modeled after the shield that Optimus used in the Transformers Dark of the Moon movie - the one he took from his Armored Weapons Platform/Trailer. They are grittier, sharper (literally) versions of the UFO shield and he has two of them - this allows you to peg both sides of the FWI-7 Annular Armory with shields on both ends - balancing the armory. Normally Optimus Prime would need only one shield, but because the edges of the shield are sharp enough, and the shield pegs can be rotated, it is possible to use the shields as giant clawed weapons. Or you can just give him a single sword and shield:

  • A mini-gun. Okay... we're pretty sure Optimus Prime never used one in the movies, but he did use one in the Transformers Prime - Beast Hunters - animated series, but it looks nothing like the one in the FWI-5 Advanced Weapons Collection. Check out the Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Optimus Prime's "Aristocratic Creature Hunstman" mini-gun from Zenith Forge here. Optimus Prime may not have used a mini-gun in the movies, but Springer did in IDW's Last Stand of the Wreckers, so this is perfect for him.

  • The Rifle Optimus Prime used when he revealed that he and the other Autobots were alive in Transformers Dark of the Moon. Wiki refers to it as an ion cannon, but we disagree. If you re-watch the film, you'll notice that the Decepticon fighter was first being hit by small energy blasts before being shot out of the sky by a much larger explosive. That combined with the fact that Optimus ejected an empty shell casing that almost squashed the humans, leads us to believe that it is also some form of grenade launcher  - not unlike the M203.

  • Something reminiscent of the ion-cannons that Optimus Prime forms from his fuel containers.

  • A thin rifle that looks like it was made from Optimus Prime's smoke-stacks:

What's NOT to like about the FWI-5 Advanced Weapons Collection for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime?:

FIRST: We love the FWI-5 Advanced Weapons collection and can't wait for the the other two FWI sets to arrive.

However, we do have two problems with it. The first is that the parts are really, really sharp. You can use both the shields and the swords to shred paper - and skin. So yes, they are dangerous.

Also plastic this sharp tends to also be brittle - not that we've pushed the boundaries of the plastic.

SECOND: None of these weapons were used by the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime. It would have been really, really nice if FWI came up with versions for the DOTM or ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime.

The FWI-5 Advanced Weapons System is available on TFSource for US$ 31.99 (Roughly PhP 1,535.32 plus shipping). Toyhax.com is selling the Reprolabels for the Evasion Mode Optimus Pime for US$ 13.00 (Roughly PhP 624 plus shipping).

Really cool stuff.
