Toyworld Orion (Not Optimus Prime) Convention Exclusive |
Now, supposedly BOTCON banned 3rd party Transformers, so supposedly this is an underground "BOTCON Shadow-Convetion" exclusive that was released along with other 3rd party exclusives in the hotels surrounding the actual BOTCON. Supposedly only 200 of these were ever made for release in North America, but the box isn't numbered and we're in Asia, so I guess that doesn't hold true.
What is true is that this version of Orion (Not Optimus Prime), is painted based upon the colors of the G1 Optimus Prime as he appeared in the Marvel Comic Book series.
Except we kinda found that boring so we jazzed him up with Reprolabels from Toyhax.com
MORE AFTER THE JUMP
The blister card of the finely packaged Toyworld Orion (Not Optimus Prime) Convention Exclusive doesn't say much about the product. However we should note that there is an error in the packaging. The package's title calls it the "Orlon and Hegemon Limited Edition" not the "Orion and Hegemon Limited Edition." Nowhere else is Orion (Not Optimus Prime) referred to as Orlon. It does however show that neither Orion (Not Optimus Prime) nor Hegemon (Not Megatron) can hit the side of a barn at point-blank range.
Here's the original Toyworld Orion (Not Optimus Prime) Convention Exclusive, next to it's Reprolabled version:
The most obvious difference is the covering of the clear portions of his chest. Personally while we thought that the clear chest waas in keeping with his more modern incarnations, none of his modern incarnations showed an exposed Autobot Matrix of Leadership, so we had to cover it up. There is actually an alternative sticker that doesn't use that reflective blue, and leaves the Matrix exposed but surrounded by some form of machinery. We didn't like that version.
Other notable changes are the stripes on his forearms, the silver lining on his ribcage and the stickers lining his spoiler/wings.

Alternate license plates include: YCNTUCH, CNFRNG, ORN PAX, and ROLL OUT. We chose CONVOY.
There are also two alternate sticker patterns for the side of the Toyworld Orion (Not Optimus Prime) Convention Exclusive, we tried the three stripe variant instead of the rather plain version that simply gave a metal finish to the cab doors. Unfortunately we didn't bother researching that the three stripes variant has a problem. No matter what you do, the stickers will be ruined once you transform him:
Reprolabels also provided a few very cosmetic changes to the Toyworld Orion (Not Optimus Prime) Convention Exclusive's face:

FIRST: As a homage to Optimus Prime, it's pretty good! Though we cannot find the reference, Optimus Prime actually appeared in a similar fashion in an IDW Comic Book - where Prime sported the "split chest" and his truck form had three stripes running down the side. Hasbro came up with an "official" version of this particular Prime when they released the Transformers Generations Legends Class Optimus Prime - which stands a quite puny 3" tall - which we recently Reprolabeled as well. You can see that the two are quite similarly built. (Sigh. Still looking for that Ion-Cannon).
We should probably note again that Toyworld chose to abandon the fire-truck red of Optimus Prime in favor of the paler red that Optimus Prime sported in the Marvel Comic books back when colored printing was still with plates.
SECOND: The Toyworld Orion (Not Optimus Prime) Convention Exclusive's articulation is pretty decent. He can twist at the waist and all that, however he cannot kneel, nor can he dual wield his ion cannon because of how broad his chest is:

What's NOT to like about the Toy World Orion (Not Optimus Prime) Convention Exclusive?
FIRST: THIS!!!! Anybody else notice the pink ion-cannon? Reprolabels actually provided stickers for the ion-cannon, but until we paint this monstrosity into a proper color, we're not going to apply them.
Seriously it looks like a sex toy. Like a vibrator that you find in a girl's closet.
SECOND: Without his Reprolabels we really thought that the figure was kinda "Meh". It literally fell flat of our expectations. We don't think that the original version with it's fire-truck red color would have fared better in our hands. Toyworld Orion (Not Optimus Prime) Convention Exclusive is a great Transformer, but there's just something lacking - that extra "oomph!" so to speak.
THIRD: The aforementioned damage to the Reprolabels upon transformation - see above.

FOURTH: The instructions? Complete rubbish. Look for how to transform him in YouTube instead.
FIFTH: In truck mode Orion's head is lazily exposed. The spoiler doesn't cover it.

The 2015 BOTCON exclusive TW01C02C - Hegemon & Orion GI Marvel Comic Book inspired repaint from Toyworld is supposedly a TFSource exclusive where it sells for US$ 219 (Roughly PhP 10,512) or around US$ 109.50 per figure. We didn't get ours from TFSource, nor did we pay that much for it.
Still a great addition to any Optimus Prime Collection:
