Batman Arkham Knight Action Figure

DC Direct
Batman Arkham Knight Action Figure
Presenting the Arkham Knight from the highly successful Batman video game of the same name.

In a nutshell, this is Jason Todd, the second Robin (The one we all voted to kill... well we did anyway, sorry about that) that the Joker allegedly killed.

For those unfamiliar with the video-game, Jason Todd replaces Dick Grayson as Robin and is seemingly killed by the Joker. Unbeknownst to Batman, the greatest Detective on Earth, Jason is still alive and has been kidnapped by the Joker.

The Joker tortures and mentally breaks Jason Todd in an abandoned wing of Arkham Assylum FOR A YEAR. You know how heroes always cling to hope and say "The Batman will come for me"? Well the Joker makes Jason cast away all hope by showing him pictures of the Batman with the new Robin (Tim Drake).

Broken, the Joker brands Jason with a "J" on his forehead and says that Jason is now his sidekick. Jason almost gives in and is about to reveal Batman's true identity when the Joker decides to shoot him in the head (Personally, we believe that he was bored and it wouldn't be any fun for the Joker if he knew the Batman's true identity).

But Jason lives! (Just had to say it). And filed with anger, the Arkham Knight is born.

Jason makes his way down to Venezuela, forms a paramilitary organization (Troops with incredible American accents) and creates an armored bat-suit designed to counter the Batman's suit and gadgets, and the rest is a really disturbing video game.

Unfortunately as with Catwoman, the Batman Arkham Knight, Arkham Knight's blister card does not say anything else about him.

Anyway, what we do know about the Akham Knight is that he comes with an armored suit that can withstand explosions; he can fly; never seems to run out of pistols to draw; and has a utility belt filled with all those awesome toys that Batman uses; a chest-piece which is designed to deflect Batman's Batclaw; communications gear in his ears; and two helmets - the external one is what we see here. The Arkham Knight's chestpiece is also a psychological weapon against the Batman as it is meant to remind the Bat about the Arkham Assylum and all of his failings there. The Arkham Knight has a second red faceless mask underneath the "bat" helmet which bears a HUD inside. Jason goes on to wear a similar red-mask when he adopts the guise of the Red Hood later on.

What's to like about the DC Direct Batman Arkham Knight Action Figure?

FIRST: Damn that's a fine looking suit! We love the armored plating mixed with kevlar. We love the forearm gauntlets and heavy boots, we love the detailed gear on his forearms. It's.... tactical.

The helmet is a bit much. In our opinion it's the only thing that breaks the tactical look of the armor. But it is still quite a visage. It's so designed that the brow always catches the light forcing a frown on his face, while the area where his eyes and mouth should be are recessed so that they always seem to end up in shadow.

Freaky.

The Batman Arkha Knight Action Figure comes with a quite unique sniper-rifle. The sniper-rifle is actually formed from two of his pistols that are merged together.

He really does looks like he belongs on rooftops sniping bad-guys.

SECOND: Again as with the Catwoman action figure the articulation is excellent (For ad DC Direct figure)! As you've seen, the Batman Arkham Knight figure can kneel and he comes with an ab-crunch.

The ab-crunch comes in handy when you bring in a stand to help him leap/fly:

What's to like about the DC Direct Batman Arkham Knight Action Figure?

FIRST: Well as he's a DC Direct figure, can the articulation still be better? You bet! The Arkham Knight Action Figure has difficulty holding his rifle with both hands. No he can't look down the scope. Big "Boo" there.

SECOND: It would also have been really cool if the Batman Arkham Knight Action figure also came with a red-mask alternate head - especially since this is the mask that Jason Todd uses in his show-down with Batman.

THIRD:  A pair of pistols would also have been nice.

This particular Batman Arkham Knight Action Figure is available on Amazon for US$ 21.93 (Roughly PhP 1052.64 plus shipping).

Getting better DC.
