Presenting the FWI-6 Jetwing Upgrade Kit II for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime.

We just featured the FWI-5 Advanced Weapons Collection and Reprolabels for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime. This is the part-2 featuring the Jetwing upgrade. As we mentioned in the FWI-5 review, you can add the FWI-5 and FWI-6 into the upcoming FWI-7 Annular trailer.

To the uninitiated, the FWI-6 Jetwing is the add-on weapons and fight system used by Optimus Prime in Transformers Dark of the Moon - which was later criticized because in Transformers Extinction, it turns out that Optimus Prime has the ability to fly, rendering the jetpack unnecessary.



This is not the first Optimus Prime jetpack we've reviewed, it's the third. In 2011 we featured Takara's DA-15 Jetwing that was the official movie version that was released - but nowhere near movie accurate. We next featured the Fans Want it (FWI-4) movie-accurate version in 2014.  The FWI-6 Jetwing Upgrade II is actually Fans Want It's 3rd shot at the jetwing. FWI released the FWI-4 for the Leader Class ROTF Movie Optimus Prime and followed it up with the FWI-4M metallic version that you see below. The FWI-6 Jetwing Upgrade Kit II is smaller and meant specifically for the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime.

What's to like about the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime FWI-6 Jetwing Upgrade Kit II?

FIRST: The weight. If we were to directly compare the FWI-4, FWI-4M and FWI-6, then the FWI-6 is inferior in terms of articulation but not necessarily detailing.

However we had no stand strong enough to carry the weight of a Leader Class DOTM or ROTF Optimus Prime, so posing the FWI-4 or FWI-4M in flight is still beyond our capabilities.

The Evasion Mode Optimus Prime has no such limitation, and posing the FWI-6 in the air was a lot of fun.

Here's the FWI-6 out of the box, its assembly is pretty straight forward and it's a simple matter to clip it on to the back of the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime:

The overall wingspan of the FWI-6 still makes photography pretty difficult, but once Prime is in the air he looks great!

SECOND: There is an unofficial mode that allows you to attach Optimus' two forearm cannons to the tips of the FWI-6s jets. Doing so allows you to free Optimus Prime's arms for other weapons, however you will have to keep the two smaller wings of the FWI-6 firmly in place to do so.

What's NOT to like about the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime FWI-6 Jetwing Upgrade Kit II?

FIRST: Nothing actually. The FWI-6 is a wonderful add-on/upgrade to the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime - even if it does not have the articulation of the FWI-4.

The only probable problem with it is that the Jetwing was never used by the Evasion Mode Optimus Prime, it was used by the DOTM Optimus Prime.
