Presenting the Transformers Combiner Wars Sky Lynx.

Sky Lynx is quite a unique Autobot. One of the few major characters of power and reknown that does not have a humanoid form (Well... til now that is). He instead transforms into.... well the G1 manuals call him a "dino-bird", but clearly he's a form of gryphon.

He's so unique in fact that he's actually quite vain  (Though he can back up his vanity and rank of Lieutenant Commander with power, speed, grace and talent, so "Bite me" seems to be his standard response to any criticism.)

Sky Lynx is so vain he's known for the quote "Before you do anything, think, 'Is this what Sky Lynx would do in my position?', and you will not go far wrong."

That's probably why Springer calls Sky Lynx "Commander Modesty".



Sky Lynx's vanity is further inscribed on his blister card "Sky Lynx often talks about himself as one of the most accomplished Autobot warriors. Now that he has mastered the power of combination, he really has something to brag about. His new combined form, Sky Reign, is a ferocious Combiner beast!"

We should probably note at this point that the Combiner Wars Sky Lynx is based upon the comic-book version of the character. In the cartoons, Sky Lynx is a combiner. His "Dino-Bird" gryphon mode is a gestalt between a space-shuttle that transforms into a bird-like creature, and; a shuttle-carrier that transforms into a cat-like creature. In the comic-books, he's a triple changer between his gryphon mode, a space-shuttle and a cat-like creature.

We should note that Sky Lynx's third "Lynx" mode is not in the instructions. What we will show below is more fan-based than canon.

Officially Hasbro still gave Sky Lynx a third mode since he has his Sky Reign mode.

What's to like about the TF Combiner Wars Sky Lynx?

FIRST: Sky Lynx really is a sexy looking Autobot. We hated him initially because his tail was so short Sky Lynx looked.... small. He had a wonderfully articulated head with s snapping jaw, powerful limbs, but no tail, it was barely there.

His full majesty was revealed when we attached his blades to Sky Lynx's tail. The two blades balanced him and completed the gryphon image which required a longer tail.

After that Transformers Combiner Wars Sky Lynx was a joy to pose in his primary "Dino-bird" or grpyhon configuration:

SECOND: Transformers Combiner Wars Sky Lynx is just as sexy in his shuttle mode. Note here: Some documents now describe what is under his undercarriage as a storage pod. However we've always known that to be a vehicle meant to transport the shuttle.

THIRD: Sky Reign is actually pretty solid. But his head is kinda small and he only comes with a pair of daggers.

What's NOT to like about the TF Combiner Wars Sky Lynx?

FIRST: Sky Lynx has really short limbs. He's just not as regal as he should be given that he looks like a baby rather than an adult. We really if those wings would support him in flight.

Note that the space-shuttle's wings are also "short" but then the space-shuttle was not designed to fly with the carrier/storage pod attached.

Perhaps if Hasbro gave Sky Lynx thicker wings so that it could fold out another layer.

SECOND: None of Sky Lynx's claws are load-bearing. If you don't pose Sky Lynx's legs properly, they'll flip up and look awkward.

THIRD: Sky Lynx's, "Lynx" mode is unofficial and looks really weird thanks to his huge tail:

FOURTH: This is the guy who goes toe-to-toe with Predaking? No freakin way, he's tiny! Even though we love his design, he's just waaay too small to be majestic or powerful enough to be considered a worthy adversary to Predaking - who would skewer him at this size.



Overall, we expected a bigger hero. Transformers Combiner Wars Sky Lynx is available on TFSource for US$ 34.99 (Roughly PhP 1,680 plus shipping. He is currently out of stock but open for pre-order).

Not quite as majestic as he should be, but he is cute.
