Shattered Glass Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame.

Presenting the Shattered Glass versions of the Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame from TFC Toys.

Or we could just say the Shattered Glass versions of the Targetroids Optimus Prime and Hot Rod (Rodimus Prime) since Hasbro probably won't go after us for copy-right violations - we hope.

We first featured the Targetroids Optiaim and Megashoton all the way back in 2011 and left the collection alone till we saw this on a Facebook forum and just had to have them for the Shattered Glass Prime (he's still a Prime after all) - we would later grow to love Hot Flame as well - but for a reason that we will discuss later.

To the uninitiated the Shattered Glass Universe is a fictional alternate reality where Earth is under attack by the evil Autobots with the only thing standing in their way being the virtuous Decepticons.

So these are bad guys.

If it's good enough for Star Trek who originally came up with the concept, we suppose it's good enough for the Transformers.

We unfortunately no longer have the original packaging, but it was a nice black box with sketch artwork that described the contents as "Targetroids: Weapon of shattered glass" Yes. Singular reference following a plural subject. We didn't write it.

It did list Optiaim's skill set as:

  • Strength: 9
  • Intelligence: 8
  • Speed: 5
  • Endurance: 9
  • Rank: 10
  • Courage: 8
  • Fireblast: 8
  • Skill: 9
It lists Hot Flame's skill set as:

  • Strength: 7
  • Intelligence: 7
  • Speed: 8
  • Endurance: 8
  • Rank: 8
  • Courage: 9 - This is the first time we've seen a reference where Hotrod/ Rodimus Prime has more guts than Optimus Prime - so we guess it really is an alternate reality.
  • Fireblast: 7
  • Skill: 8
There's also a reference to a weibo website: http://q.weibo.com/332986 which is in Chinese which we can barely speak let alone read.

What do we love about the Shattered Flass Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame?

FIRST: As with their regular Targetroid counterparts.... well at least for Optiaim, we don't have and therefore cannot attest to how nice the regular Hot Flame is... they are both finely sculpted pieces of work. Very good looking characters in fact. Check out all that fine detailing:

SECOND: And again as with their regular Targetroid counterparts, these are not cheap plastic figures, there's a definite heft to Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame that makes them feel that you got more value for your money.

THIRD: Thanks to a plethora of ball joints, articulation is excellent for both Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame:

FOURTH: Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame have an unofficial gestalt version where Hot Flame becomes a weapon system for Optiaim:

Except that's too much black, so we switched out the Shatered Glass Optiaim for his regular Targetroid counterpart::

What do we NOT love about the Shattered Flass Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame?

FIRST: As with their regular Targetroid counterparts we hate their weapon modes. They never lock properly and are incredibly hard to mount. Here's the Shattered Glass Optiaim's alt mode:

And the Shattered Glass Hot Flame Targetroid's alt mode:

Here are the Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame in the hands of a Rage over Cybertron Optimus Prime:

It must be weird to be firing a gun knowing that there's a face at the butt of the gun staring right back at you. Do they talk back we wonder?

The Targetroids Optiaim can also be mounted on the back of the Rage over Cybertron Optimus Prime. We had difficulty mounting Hot Flame because he's wider:

Another thing we do like about the Shattered Glass Targetroids Optiaim and Hot Flame is that the set is relatively cheap: Roughly PhP 1,500 (Around US$ 33.33) on the black market. They are not available on Amazon.
