Carol Susan Jane Danver has been known by many names. She started her super-hero career as Ms Marvel, but then was depowered by Rogue, and then mutated by the High-Evolutionary whereby she became the Starjammer known as Binary; She then lost most of those really almost Phoenix like powers when she saved the Earth's sun and returned to her Ms Marvel level powers but adopted the name Warbird instead. Later when she rejoined the Avengers, bent on becoming popular, she became Ms Marvel again.
Today though, following the death of Captain Mar-Vell (Again?), she adopted the name Captain Marvel and having lost her memories to a massive brain lesion, she has again left the Earth and is currently with the Guardians of the Galaxy - at least we think she is since she's also on Steve Rogers side of the current hero-in-fighting in the Avengers.
Aside from that Carol Danvers has also been an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.; US Air Force intelligence agent and captain; NASA Chief of Security; editor of Woman Magazine; a Published Writer; Chief Field Leader of U.S. Homeland Security Dept with the rank of Colonel; a Sales clerk, AND; a Security Guard.
Ms Marvel is also a mother (technically); a victim of rape and sexual abuse; a former alcoholic, and; an obvious emotional wreck - long story. Perhaps it is better that she's forgotten all about that. Ms Marvel is Marvel Comic's Paladin - one who believes that perfection is not possible, but nevertheless should be aspired for every day. Ms Marvel is Marvel's embodiment of William Ernest Henley's "Invictus"
"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul."
And Ms Marvel soldiers on.... well technically she doesn't having adopted the name Captain Marvel. THE Ms Marvel is now Kamala Khan a Pakistani-American Nerd (Note: Nerd, not Geek. Nerds aren't cool - which is what she is socially. Geeks rule.). Kamala idolized Captain Marvel in the same way that Carol Danvers idolized Captain Mar-Vell. We hear that Kamala Khan's comic book is rating quite well and that her struggles - she's a minority in terms of her gender, race and religion - are potentially making her the next Spider-Man (Even if her powers are ridiculously reminiscent of Plastic Man's).
Ironically Kamala's never met the Carol Danvers.
Whats to like about the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Ms Marvel?
FIRST: The Infinite Series Ms Marvel is a re-deco and re-sculpt of one of our favorite Marvel Legends figures: Satana.
However while we would like to compare Ms Marvel to Power Girl in the same way that we compared Satana's Pomelo's to Power Girl's; we have to note that Ms Marvel is not known for her Boom-booms. She's known instead for having a bodacious bottom.
ANYWAY!!! Ms Marvel comes with all the wonderful articulation that Satana has, PLUS she's quite a darling to pose when combined with a figure stand:
The Marvel Legends Infinite Series Ms Marvel also looks great on the ground. We should take the time to point out that she looks waaaaaaay better than her original Marvel Legends Giant-Man series version.
SECOND: We have mixed feelings about the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Ms Marvel's facial sculpt. We feel it's a re-sculpt, but we're not sure. But it is a very fine sculpt. We love how they decided to give her a more natural lipstick rather than giving her something red. It adds to the seriousness of the character. Hey eyes are blue by the way. The camera just doesn't pick it up properly. She does not suffer from the weird eye-syndrome of Supergirl.
Nothing actually. There are no real issues with Ms Marvel. Perhaps double jointing her elbows? What you see on the left here is the max that you can raise her forearms. But that's a personal choice.
We're also not too fond of her waist-wrap. Sometimes it feels too short, sometimes it feels out of place. Again a personal choice.
We guess you could say that she is guilty of being quite a joy to shoot - which reminds us, if we're right Ms Marvel also served some time as a Fashion model - or it could be that she worked with fashion models, not so sure right now.
This particular Marvel Legends Infinite Series Ms Marvel was purchased loose on Ebay for US$ 25 (Roughly 1, 104.48 plus shipping). She is available on Amazon as part of the Infinite Series 3-pack for US$ 37.91 (Roughly PhP 1,705.95 plus shipping).
Eh. Definitely worth it.
