Marvel Legends Spider-Woman - Infinite Series

Presenting Spider-Woman from the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Toyline.

What is it about Jessica Drew? Even without her pheromone powers or sexy British accent, she is one of the hottest women in the Marvel Universe - also despite the fact that she's technically one of the most dressed.

She's so hot she actually dyes her blonde hair black.

It must definitely be that costume. It's soooo tight it looks like she's wearing nothing in the comic books but body paint. It's soooo tight her belly-button is clear as day.

The Marvel Legends Spider-Woman's costume is soooo tight she looks practically naked in comparison to more "clothing averse" characters such as Satana and Emma Frost.

Spider-Woman recently drew some controversy thanks to a cancelled Milo Manara variant of Spider-Woman # 1 that people said was too risque for the newsstands. Our personal take on that is, "Hey! It's Milo Manara! It's not for everybody and definitely not for kids!"

We also feel a bit of hypocrisy here because a) it's not the first Manara cover (Check out the Uncanny X-Men # 12) of Marvel. They're variants. They're freakishly expensive and not meant for kids but for more "adult" collectors, and; b) Marvel's Spider-Woman is known for that pose (or something similar to it). It's not the first time she's been portrayed on all fours.

It's just that her uniform is just sooo tight :)

Anyway, the blister pack of the Marvel Legends Infinite Spider-Woman reads that the former plaything of the High Evolutionary is a "Fierce Fighter: Fierce Combat skills are unleashed when these heroes spring into action."

Hmmmm. Spider-Woman isn't known for direct combat. Yes, she's a S.H.I.E.L.D and Taskmaster trained combatant, but she's always seemed to rely more on her cunning and guile to get her by. This is the woman who talked down the Wrecker and the Hulk using her pheromones after all. And her history can be summed up in one word: Agent. Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent of Hydra. Agent of S.W.O.R.D.

So "Fierce Fighter" Would not be the words we'd use to describe her - though she is.

As you can see, she comes packed with the BAF Left-Arm and grinning face of Thanos!

What's to like about the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Spider-Woman?

FIRST: The wings! In 2006, Marvel released a Spider-Woman as a part of the MODOK BAF Series. It was actually one of the harder figures to find here in the Philippines. A chase figure - just because she was a woman.

We had two of them in the Dungeon. Both lost to the "Great upheaval of 2012"

The key feature of the MODOK BAF Spider-Woman figure was that it came with rubberized wings under her armpits mimicking her suit's webbed wings.

Unfortunately over time, these webbed wings would become brittle and literally break apart. So were really, really happy that Marvel decided to give the Infinite Series Spider-Woman two sets of detacheable wings instead: One set for spread arms; one set for when her arms are down.

Both sets of wings have rectangular pegs that fit into slots in her underarms. We definitely prefer her though with her arms spread and frankly you don't really have to remove the spread wings variant. Her "spread" wings tend to simply fold up her back anyway. There is some articulation lost, but not that much.

SECOND: We don't really like that Marvel Legends Infinite Series Spider-Woman is made out of a recycled Satana body, but it does provide Spider-Woman with a high-level of articulation and a wonderfuly muscular body. We particularly love her wrists joints:

THIRD: Another good thing about sharing a body with Satana is that you can perform the simple mod of replacing Marvel Legends Infinite Series Spider-Woman's head with Satana's. You will have to get rid of the Goth Black lipstick though and recolor her eyes green - both of which is far easier to do with Photoshop:

Unfortunately finding a Satana can be quite a challenge. A loose one on Ebay as of this writing will set you back around US$ 75 (Roughly PhP 3,300 plus shipping).

FOURTH: Even without a Satana head, the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Spider-Woman's facial sculpt is far superior to her Modok version. And unlike the flurry of dead-pan faces that we've been plagued with from Marvel recently, Spider-Woman has some character thanks to a slightly opened mouth. We haven't seen teeth from a Marvel character in a while:

What's NOT to like about the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Spider-Woman?

FIRST: Marvel Legends Infinite Series' Spider-Woman's greatest problem is her hair. We love the sculpt of her hair. Her locks are very glossy, very long, and very in the way of allowing her to turn her head.

SECOND: Satana's body was meant more for the "pose and fire (cast spells)" look versus Spider-Woman's jump, twist, evade and fire style. Some of her more classic moves require higher articulation. But she still looks great.

Also we're not particularly fond of recycled bodies, but that's just us.

This particular Marvel Legends Infinite Series Spider-Woman was purchased from Toy Kingdom in Megamall here in the Philippines at the retail price of PhP 1,499.75 (Roughly US$ 33.32). She is available of Amazon for US$ 43.90 (Roughly PhP 1,975.50 plus shipping)

Damn she's hot!
