Presenting the Walmart Exclusive Jedi-Adept Rey from the Star Wars 3.75 Episode VII Black Series action figure toyline.

We don't collect Star Wars Episode VII figures because, quite frankly, we don't feel like throwing away good money for action figures that only have 5-points of articulation - especially since we know from both the Star Wars Vintage and Black Series that Hasbro and Disney can do waaaay bettter than that.

It's 2015 after all, why should we settle for anything less than the best?

Which is why all we had featured from Episode VII were the larger 6" Black Series figures

So we waited and waited, and finally got our hands on the Walmart exclusive Rey 3.75 Black Series Action figure that you see here.

And boy can she move.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP

By now you should all be familiar with Rey, the Force-Adept who was abandoned as a child on the planet of Jakku. Our money is still with her being the daughter of Luke Skywalker.

This particular action figure comes with:

• A removable scavengers knapsack with the component that she salvaged from the derelict Star Destroyer being held on it's side; 
• Her jury-rigged bow-staff - let's take this time to take apart an internet meme that points out that there's a screw on her bow-staff: Why would any intergalactic race not use screws? It's a technology that we believe will never disappear because it is simple and practical - two traits that are necessary in the wilds of space. 
• An alternate head - yes, you have to pop her head off. The alternate head is her scavengers get-up i.e. head scarf and goggles.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE STAR WARS EPISODE VII WALMART EXCLUSIVE REY ACTION FIGURE?

FIRST: Rey can move!!!!

To say that we do not understand Disney's move to simplify the Star Wars figures down to just giving them 5POA is not true. It should definitely make them cheaper to produce and they probably argue that we fanboys will just pose them standing straight anyway.

Also we survived the 70 and the 80s with 5POA figures. Happily GI Joe figures had more articulation.

But the reality is, we do play with our toys, we like posing them, and we've seen what Hasbro and Disney are capable of.

So, as we said, we love that this particular Rey can move and she's wonderful with her bo-staff. We have some beef with her articulation though that we'll get into later:

There is some articulation lost in her left arm though when you replace her head thanks to the excess plastic of her head-wraps that fall over her left shoulder:

SECOND: Give her Luke's/Anakin's Lightsaber and go nuts!

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE STAR WARS EPISODE VII WALMART EXCLUSIVE REY ACTION FIGURE?

FIRST: Rey can sufers from the same problems that her larger 6" counterpart suffers: Yes, she loses articulation due to the hard plastics of her "skirt" which is something that both the 3.75" and 6" Kylo Ren does not suffer because he has cloth instead of hard plastic.

The hard plastic prevents her from kneeling - which she has difficulty doing anyway because her knees are not double jointed.

As mentioned, when you substitute her head for her head-scarf, she loses articulation in her left arm.

We love that she has wrist joints that allow her to "curl" her wrists, but we wish they gave her the GI Joe wrist set-up that would have allowed her to hyper-extend her bo-staff. It would also have made grasping her bo-staff at her side like she does in the Episode VII much easier.

SECOND: Her face is indeed rather deadpan - just like her 6" version and her hair could use some worth. We suppose some detail was removed because her head is removable.

THIRD: There's a lot of excess flash everwhere - particularly on her joints. Some of it we had to clean off. You can still see some on her legs.

FOURTH: The backpack fit poorly, it hangs off her shoulders - which will make the backpack fall - and not on her shoulders. 

Still, it's a wonderful figure to have and we hope that a post destruction of the Starkiller base will be made, one with her own lightsaber.

Let's take the time, by the way, to point out that people in the Star Wars Universe seem to always be passing lightsabers to other people business end first. That's kinda dangerous.We would not like the business end of a Lightsaber pointed at us.
