Marvel Legends Spiral Gold Variant

Marvel Legends Spiral Gold Variant
Presenting the Spiral Gold variant from the Marvel Legends Red Hulk BAF series.

We first met the woman known as Spiral waaaay back in the mid-80s during the Fall of the Mutants story-line of the X-Men. Back then she was one of the scariest members of Freedom Force, a literal powerhouse who could take the X-Men on all by her lonesome.

Spiral was a master swords-woman who had six arms - one bionic arm - enhanced strength; the ability to use offensive and defensive magic; and could teleport across dimensions, and; a severely psychotic attitude.

Her one vulnerability seemed to be her irrational hatred for the X-Man Longshot. It would later be revealed that it's because she's the future Mojo manipulated version of Rita "Richochet Rita" Wayward, Longshot's girlfriend.

Decades later Spiral would become a member of the all female - not counting Puck - X-Force team.

This particular Spiral is a variant of the Spiral released as a part of the Marvel Legends Red Hulk Series. The regular one

The difference between the variant and the regular version is the use of gold paint where the regular version uses silver.

That's about it.

Apparently that's enough to make this particular Marvel Legends action figure rare. It's one of the last figures in our collection that survived the great Dungeon upheaval two years ago.

Marvel Legends Spiral action figure comes one sword, one scimitar, another sheathed scimitar and a removable kabuto styled helmet. We had another scimitar from a lost regular Marvel Legends Spiral lying around so we gave it to her.

What's to like about the Marvel Legends Spiral Gold Variant?

FIRST: Without a doubt, Spiral is THE MOST unique Marvel Legends action figure ever to be released, hands-down (Pun intended).

It really is a marvel of plastic engineering for this particular action figure to have six fully articulated arms - mind you they are fully articulated, each of Spiral's arms are mounted on ball joints, have double jointed elbows and have swivel wrists.

The design also takes into account the position of her arms. No one set of arms is relatively in the proper position in relation to her torso should she only have one set of arms. Instead they are grouped so that the arms are centered around where where a single arm-set should be.

Proof of her high-arm articulation can be seen in her ability to dual-wield BOTH her swords at the same time.

With two hands to spare.

SECOND: She's definitely a scary figure to consider with all those blades in action

THIRD: We're fond of her head sculpt. The empty white eyes add to the intimidation factor. Admittedly though her look without her kabuto may be an acquired taste:

What's NOT to like about the Marvel Legends Spiral Gold Variant?

FIRST: There's a detail problem - bit of a nitpicking issue - with regard to her arms. Two of her arms are supposed to be bionic. This particular Marvel Legends only has one bionic arm. Nothing a little dremeling and painting can't fix - though it would be a bit of a shame given that the detail in Spiral's arms are pretty good - see the realistic ridges in her hands and forearms?

SECOND: Her leg articulation is horrible. No Spiral cannot kneel. They inserted a ball joint where her knees should be instead of a double-joint so her movement leg wise is pretty limited.

That's about it.

The gold variant of the Marvel Legends Spiral is still available on Amazon for a whopping US$ 80 (Roughly PhP 3,760 plus shipping). Her value is sure to rise.
