Star Wars Legacy Collection Imperial Space Trooper

Presenting an Imperial Space trooper from the Star Wars Legacy Collection.

Hopefully Imperial space-troopers will be kept as canon in the new Star Wars universe. It does make sense after all to have troopers that can operate in a vacuum if your army operates in one. When we reviewed the Star Wars Black Series Stormtrooper

we revealed that Stormtrooper armor can survive for a limited time in vacuums - probably just enough time to get to safety - the Imperial Space Trooper was meant to live that childhood dream we probably all had as children of flying through space on a jetpack while launching laser bolts from our wrists.

MORE ABOUT THE IMPERIAL SPACE TROOPER AFTER THE JUMP

The Star Wars Legacy Collection Space Trooper's blister card reads "Spacetroopers are high-ranking Imperial commandos who wear powersuit armor designed for space combat. These Zero-G Assault Troopers are considered "walking tanks" because of the extensive weaponry built into their suits."

What the blister card does not mention is that this is the light-space trooper armor that debut in the comic books that covered the Thrawn campaign. To our knowledge there are three Spacetroopers in the market: This one; a black BAF one, and; a silver armor set that did not seem to bear any built in weapons and carried a weird looking cannon instead.

Wookipedia describes the two bulkier cousins of this Imperial Spacetrooper armor as being a "Two-meter tall set of Zero-G armor that interfaced with standard stormtrooper armor. The suit provided a hermetic seal against the vacuum of space and propulsion that allowed spacetroopers to move and fight in space for extended periods...."  Leia Organa Solo, described how a single spacetrooper was more than capable of breaching and seizing control of a blockade runner.

What's to like about the Star Wars Legacy Collection Imperial Space Trooper?

FIRSTThe Star Wars Legacy Collection Imperial Space trooper comes with a removable jet-pack that tends to make him a bit top-heavy. We like this little bit of modularity though because we don't believe that all space-battle situations would call for being able to fly through space. It does make sense that if you were to take control of a Blockade Runner by yourself that once you breach the hull, you might want to lose the jetpack to make it easier for you to roam around the tight corridors.

SECONDThe Star Wars Legacy Collection Imperial Space trooper's articulation is pretty decent for someone so bulky. This allows the Space Trooper to bring his forearm cannons to bear on Rebel scum quite nicely.

Yes he can even kneel:

THIRD: Standing almost 3.9" tall, the Star Wars Legacy Collection Imperial Space trooper looks bad-ass. Like a Stormtrooper on steroids - which we suppose he technically is.

What's NOT to like about the Star Wars Legacy Collection Imperial Space Trooper?

FIRSTNot much. We'd actually like to build an army of Space Troopers as they are VERY cool.

The only thing we are not really happy about with this figure are his laser cannons. They are supposed to have the ability to be recessed within his forearms. The cowlings for the lasers are there. They are raised, and cannot be lowered. It would have been great if they could be lowered.

SECONDWe could also do with a little more thigh articulation

The Star Wars Legacy Collection Imperial Space Trooper is available on Amazon for US$ 26.99 (Roughly PhP 1,269 plus shipping) and comes with a BAF droid part. There's a Star Wars SAGA version that is cheaper and comes with a Stormtrooper blaster.

Oh to get more!
